On the back of my Tim Spector book review request....Nominations please for best go to nutritional reference book

I think I need to change my request to ask for people's nominations for most informative nutritional guide without any spin... just facts which I can tailor to my specific requirements?

I'd like a go to resource to refer back to as I just can't remember everything 🤯 but nothing too scientific please 🙏

The link includes the user guide, and two spreadsheets – the main data and an “old foods” supplement. They require you to have some sort of spreadsheet software such as Excel or Mac Numbers, installed.

A good book.

Paperback from Amazon...but about £50 I'm afraid

I had an early version of this book about 60 years ago.....alas, a great deal of the content is now lost in the mists of time!!

No idea what happened to my copy but it would be well out of date by now anyway!

Interestingly, previous editions were available at the library (I could buy an old copy) but not this one? They are stocking the Tim Spector book...

Should keep me quiet for a while and then I'll start with the questions 😉

Or this, based on the above ....also good and an easier read.

Someone's review of this was that the earlier copy they had bought years ago was better as it didn't include the junk foods in the newer edition 😆

I avoid buying books as far as possible, so this reply is mostly links :

This is a useful reference book, but it is getting old and creaky now. The references are old too. I would always double check the author's conclusions on anything and everything. It contained info on some potentially useful supplements that I had never heard of before. If it interests you I'd suggest buying a second-hand one.

Spectre’s last book Spoonfed, can be bought as secondhand paperback….a good thought provoking read, and it is likely to change the way you eat!

😉 I'm adding what I can to my library request list and then buying others second hand where possible.... I need to re-educate as everything about my diet has drastically changed in the last 18 months, feeling well now but don't want to miss out some vital things with the new regime 🤗

I would go with the latest books because nutrition research is rapidly evolving and you’ll find possibly conflicting and outdated information in older books.

Fair point, and the vit/min content is dropping in most whole foods...I just don't want a book that tells me all about processed food as I don't touch it, I'm keen to learn about unadulterated ingredients

The population seemed far healthier when rationing was in force 🙄 all gone downhill since then it seems.

Keen to just have simple and nourishing... I think the Amish have a much better relationship with food... perhaps I should look into that 😉

Are you after a university textbook or something aimed more at the consumer?

Straight nutritional fact, wholefoods and interaction rather than spin or recipe nutrition? But not too intense highbrow (I've not been to Uni so guessing that could go beyond my depth) I've got a few requests in with the library to find my level, though quite a limited range

I like these books:

amazon.co.uk/Advanced-Nutri...

amazon.co.uk/Nutrition-Main...

This is focused on a functional medicine perspective in case you're interested:

They are expensive however you may be able to find them online 😉
