Hi, having a problem with teeth grinding mainly when sleeping its been over 20 years now, Id like to know if anyone is using anything that actually works to stop this like, supplements or prescription meds.
My health history.
Post-Hypothyroidism
premenopausal-to date
Medication-now none.
Been 1year no levothyroxine ( my decision) due to too many negative side effects, call me crazy but I'm glad to be off levothyroxine.
Supplements recently taken-Codliveroil

Unfortunately there isn't a pill for everything. I used to teeth grind, looking back if I had excluded gluten & dairy I don't think it would have been an issue. Have you tried either or both of those?
Interesting statement 'post hypothyroidism'. Wasn't aware that was a thing tbh.
I can relate as I felt more normal before going on Levo but it's only because I wasn't on a T4/T3 combo. When my T3 was too low I had awful involuntary jaw/teeth clenching. It would happen at night and also during the day I'd catch myself doing it. I've lowered my Levo down and started adding T3 , haven't had it since.
I suddenly started experiencing sporadic involuntary jaw clenching somewhere during my thyroid meds journey as well. The extent of symptoms from hypo through transition to thorough optimisation is completely mind boggling. You have also just reminded me mine has subsided too 😁.
I grind my teeth too. I didn’t know until the dentist told me. I could have a guard at night but I just think I couldn’t bear it and probably would be a waste of money. I’m on thyroid hormones to a good level. Sorry I can’t offer a solution. Good luck.
Have a chat with your dentist, the taking of the moulds is far worse than the actual bite raiser, it’s not as intrusive as you think it’s going to be. And if it saves extra dental work on your back teeth, it’s worth it.
I have been grinding my teeth for years. I have a mouth guard from my dentist and been the best thing ive done. Cant sleep without it any more.Definitely recommend asking your dentist for one.
And another vote for see your dentist and ask about a bite raiser/tooth protector/mouth guard.
My dentist picked up on my teeth grinding, I do it while I sleeep, no control over it. I think I destroyed several of my back teeth doing it. I’ve had no problems since using the bite raiser, but said bite raiser is quite scuffed up at the back, I obviously grind more than I realised. It cost me £100, custom made from moulds taken by the dentist, clips over the bottom teeth and doesn’t get in the way of talking, taking my levo, sleeping. And it’s miles cheaper than getting another of my back teeth crowned/capped.
Teeth grinding can also be indicative of parasites. A good place to start is.
A “full moon parasite cleanse” indicated by Dr Todd Watts of Cellcore Biosciences and Dr Jay Davidson of Microbe Formulas could be helpful. These products are sold in the U.K. by ProActive healthcare and Amrita Nutrition.
The Microbe Formula site has very good educational material.
Low stomach acid is a symptom of hypothyroidism and subsequent recirculated bile sludge leads to poor processing of Vitamins A D E K (Oil based). Deficiency of these Vitamins is well documented as they can’t be utilised without good bile flow. The undigested food is then a potential food source for unwanted guests.
A silicon tooth night guard is vey beneficial to protect teeth when sleeping.
Thank you for this I was told the same by naturopath too .. she advised if the children are grinding teeth while sleeping, they might have parasites.
I did detox in several different ways( for quite long time) and also added 5 cycles(10days on, 10 days off ) Diatomaceous Earth, Food grade from Health Leads. I have an amazing deep sleep for 8 hours now without interruption, my energy is back and happy mood, also I stopped Levothyroxine that caused many side effects and now only taking sporadically Metavive.
There is a scientific research that I posted once here from PubMed that parasites could cause Hashimoto. Patient who was given antibiotics to remove parasitic infection ( blastocyst homminis) removed all symptoms of Hashimoto and was healed after removing parasitic infection.
Well done @Bobo for taking action resulting with uninterrupted sleep!
It is really important to get the detox sequence correct ie no point unblocking upstream pipes to have a build up and/or blockage lower down with recycling of toxins.
If it is felt to be helpful after the Full Moon protocol (3 days either side) the subsequent detox protocols take a gentle approach to clearing out our unwanted and uninvited guests. The Microbe formulas website goes over this progressional detox in detail and it is powerfully effective in potentially removing a root cause of hypothyroidism.
I grind and often clamp my jaws together at night. When my tongue is in the way it hurts! My dentist made me a shield for my upper teeth and I no longer bite my tongue. However the shield cost almost £200! After about 4 years it needed replacing. This was durning Covid when dentists were closed. So I found a company who makes then on the EBay site. It was very easy to make the mould at home. I did need to trim the new guard when it arrived, away from my gums( I have a small mouth) but it’s been great and only cost about £35. It’s a better fit than the dentist one.
Heres a link to a low cost mouth guard to protect teeth whilst figuring out the cause....I was reading about these the other day...this one seems to have very god reviews...
I used to have this issue as well. I was on T4 only for many years but my T3 was very low. After having T3 added I no longer have this issue. It's been 5 years now .
My grinding seems to be stress related. I don't grind every night but use a mouth guard which is a pain at times. Also, recently I had a cap fall off and was replaced with new. Once replaced I noticed a better bite on that side and since I have noticed I don't grind as much. So I believe if your bite is off you may grind on that side. Do you have a particular side you have noticed? Mine is left. Good luck.
