can my thyroid get better without medication?

My thyroid test results were going down hill fast but not out of range. So was never medicated. my symptoms were terrible. So bad, I relented and went on antidepressants. I've just had another medichecks test and it seems to have sent my results the opposite way. I Haven't done anything different. No medication, haven't gone gluten free....im jst surprised to see levels so low and then go back up again. I do feel a little better than I did a few months ago.

Hae you added in any supplements? I see you have written B12 shots although the last number you have written looks below the range. Sorry, am struggling to read your writing on a small photo. if you have raised vitamin levels that can cause thyroid numbers to change.

Your folate is also low in range so you should be supplementing that to get it to 50%+ of its range.

I was wondering about that but Peppermints has mentioned the last test was a Medichecks test—they test Active B12 don’t they? So that 124 might be ok?

yeah I have pernicious anemia too so it lasts for a few months then crashes.

It rather looks like you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis - aka Hashi's - according to your Tg antibodies. In which case levels are going to jump around. But, increasing levels of thyroid hormone do not mean your thyroid is 'getting better'. It won't. And, taking 'medication' won't make it get better, either.

The 'medicaion' you would be given is actully thyroid hormone replacment - levothyroxine (T4) - which doesn't treat your thyroid in any way, it just replaces the hormone your thyroid can no-longer make enough of to keep you well.

Sorry, but once a thyroid starts to fail - for whatever reason - there's really nothing you can do about it. Improving nutrient levels might make you feel better, but won't stop the inevitable decline of your thyroid.

I'm suffering with weight gain I cant shift even being active.

Fatigue especially in the early afternoon. Good old heartburn and very low mood but gotten better after some time off work.

I just read a few of your old posts. So you have Hashi's but it's in the early stages where thyroid levels will change. I'm struggling to understand why you wouldn't want to start supplementing folate when it would go towards making you feel better. Low folate has been linked to weight gain. Also folate is needed to make your B12 work, they work in partnership along with several other B vitamins. Good iron and magnesium levels are also required for B12 to work.

so is it the antibodies make the f4 fluctuate so much? I felt so Ill when it was at 13 and feel better now at 18.....

High TG antibodies can be due to pernicious anaemia

Having depression can result in low thyroid levels

Also low thyroid levels can cause depression

If thyroid levels are improving on antidepressants then perhaps it was that thyroid levels were low because of depression rather than vice versa
