Have your liver checked.

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to sophiaS1980

Liver been tested, ok apparently. Then so are my thyroid results even though I have most symptoms of hypothyroidism and Two TSH over five, three months apart, antibodies also, not enough for treatment though.

Kidneys?

And is it possible for you to speak to a different GP? Two TSH over 5 & symptomatic should warrant at least a trial of levothyroxine.

Thank you, kidneys alright also, although had a long time years back blood in urine persistently, no cause ever found. Will speak to a GP hopefully this week.

Low Iron causes dry flaky skin?

Thanks, think I need more bloods done.

If that GP won't give you a trial of treatment - levothyroxine - then try a different one at the same practice. You're definitely hypo.

Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to Jaydee1507

Thank you, I will try the GP practice again.

Blood in urine could be kidney stones passing through.

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to BonnieG123

Had a kidney scan with dye years ago, no stones detected at that time.

Hi. Itching definitely is a sign of hypothyroidism. I was tortured with it before being diagnosed and after starting levo for a good while. Usually torso for me, back in particular. I was very ( very) hypothyroid before being diagnosed by which time I had very severe symptoms including very dry skin that showed like dandruff flakes around my waistband. My TSH was in the hundreds by then though.

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to Lulu2607

Thank you for your reply, defo need to contact a GP if possible.

Lulu2607 profile image
Lulu2607 in reply to Clydeiknowyou69

Hi. You may find your other conditions improve too if you start levo. I see you're due a follow up to a FIT test (from a different post). I had awful problems with stomach and toilet issues. before diagnosis. I went gluten free when I started levo and both things helped a lot. Thyroid affects every part of your body as it's the master gland for metabolism so it's definitely worth further consideration. Good luck.

Yeah, have since had colonoscopy, divertculosis diagnosed, two polyps removed, one tattooed to keep a check on it. Still not had the results of biopsies almost four months later. Still have digestive problems. Heartburn among other things is a nightmare. You'd imagine GP's would correlate all these things. Doesn't seem so. Thank you so much for your replies.

Previous post - TSH over 5 and high thyroid antibodies

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Have you got FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done yet via Medichecks or Blue horizon

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning, ideally before 9am

Watch out for postal strikes …..probably best to post back via guaranteed 24 hours delivery

Flow chart on starting levothyroxine

Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to SlowDragon

Will try the GP's surgery to try get more tests done. Then will try to save up money to get Thyroid bloods done privately.

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Clydeiknowyou69

Print that flow chart out that shows if TSH is over 5, high thyroid antibodies AND symptoms…..trialing levothyroxine is next step

What’s your diet like

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Request GP test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

plus coeliac blood test as you have high thyroid antibodies (autoimmune thyroid disease)

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng20/c...

1.1 Recognition of coeliac disease

1.1.1 Offer serological testing for coeliac disease to:

people with any of the following:

persistent unexplained abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms

faltering growth

prolonged fatigue

unexpected weight loss

severe or persistent mouth ulcers

unexplained iron, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency

type 1 diabetes, at diagnosis

autoimmune thyroid disease, at diagnosis

irritable bowel syndrome (in adults)

first‑degree relatives of people with coeliac disease.

I'm not vegan or anything.

Low vitamin levels strongly linked to being hypothyroid

Low thyroid levels leads to low stomach acid, poor nutrient absorption and low vitamin levels as direct result

Acid reflux and bloating common

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to SlowDragon

I have learned a lot on this site, digestive problems ongoing, still awaiting biopsy results from a Colonoscopy almost four months ago to see if anything other than the divertculosis was detected ie IBD or other. Been told previously acid reflux could be due to using steroid asthma inhalers. Defo back to GP for more tests and answers. Thank you.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Clydeiknowyou69

So do you still use asthma inhalers

Steroids in inhaler may lower TSH ….possibly making it more difficult to get diagnosed

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

mayoclinic.org/drugs-supple...

ESSENTIAL To test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to SlowDragon

Yes, still use steroid asthma inhaler daily

That's another bit of information that's worth knowing. SlowDragon you have phenomenal knowledge of thyroid issues. I bow to you. A pity the medical profession don't seem to possess your prowess.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Clydeiknowyou69

Many medics/endocrinologists don’t seem curious to consider how integrated the whole body is

They frequently seem surprised that gut and thyroid are linked or that vitamin deficiencies or some medications can affect thyroid or pituitary

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to SlowDragon

They said my thyroid antibody results were normal, don't even know what antibody test they did. They only said it was 96.1 after I persisted for an answer.

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

Link re access

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

as per my previous replies

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Come back with new post once you get results

Follow the websites, they often have sales on different test packages. You can save quite a bit if you hit it at the right time.

I've never had any half-moon's on my nails 🤔

Souzy profile image

Me neither. I have always had them on my thumbs but not on my fingers. I've always assumed the problem is if you have them and then they disappear?

Yeah, I used to have them, now only a small one on one thumb.

Itching can be a sign of thyriod ,I had awful iching before diagnosed, when put on levothyroxine it went for many years ,in the past few years it back ,dermatologist has told me related to hypothyriod as I have very high thyriod antibodies hashimos ,your doctor really should try you on alow dose of levo

dani11 profile image
dani11 in reply to Alice70

I’m on 50 of Levothyroxine . I really only get the itch on the top of my right arm , drives me nuts sometimes tho.

Clydeiknowyou69 profile image
Clydeiknowyou69 in reply to dani11

I get random itches, had one on underside of left forearm for months, had my skin broken with scratching. Gone for now. Have one below left elbow periodically at the moment. Few years back legs and backs were incredibly itchy, had to attend the nurse, they put it down to just starting a new medicine. Still have itching, not as severe now.

it’s crazy the things that happen 🤷‍♀️

Lulu2607 profile image
Lulu2607 in reply to dani11

Yes that's true, but I'm always aware that whatever is currently bothering me, aches, pains etc, could be thyroid related, it could also be something else? It's a tricky one.

dani11 profile image

yes I agree, hasimotos, menopausal, sleep apnea, I never know which one is causing these crazy symptoms.
