Morning,

I currently have endometriosis and pcos so suffering a lot with body pains/fatigue/tiredness, bloating etc but lately it seems to have gotten worse, i have just had 2 lots of bloods done within a 5 weeks and have been told i have high level of thyroid which means under- active? and low iron, but was better on the second bloods than the first?

They have now asked me to have a anti bodies bloods in 2 months?

I generally feel awful and my weight gain has massively increased since having my last surgery for endo so i do feel its not all realated to that right now weight wise and not sure whether to chase this up quicker!

my mum and all her sisters and her mum have all suffered with thyroid problems either being over or under but my Dr told me it isn't anything to do with genes etc.

could anyone shed some light on symptoms and should i ask if i can get it done sooner or what i should be asking for?

TIA

x

If you have had two blood tests with TSH over 5 you should have thyroid antibodies tested now and starting on levothyroxine

Please add results and ranges

Has GP prescribed iron supplements?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Thyroid disease is highly generic and frequently runs in families……so GP is incorrect

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
