What is meant by subclinical hypothyroidism (if anything) has been the subject of much agonised debate as to whether or not to supplement with T4. On a different tack, patients with very low TSH on therapy are warned about future heart problems (AF). This paper shows that cholesterol, especially the LDL part is raised in SCH, with potential problems for heart trouble So, we are faced again with contrary indications in different settings. Instead of stating that T4 therapy in SCH is unnecessary, it should not be a statistical statement that is used to deny treatment completely, but to do a T4 trial to see if the INDIVIDUAL benefits from it.

To non-medics a disease that is described as subclinical suggests that the disease is present but is mild and causes no symptoms. But of course, almost everyone on this forum diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism knows that it comes with a lot of very unpleasant symptoms. They wouldn't be members otherwise. And what do doctors do? They say that symptoms must be caused by "something else".
Doctors often play with words to get out of treating something or to dismiss patients. Apparently, the Danes have now decided that subclinical hypothyroidism is a problem of "low metabolism" and is a "functional" disorder.
I think this could have been helpful to me about 20 years ago. I have as yet no idea if my thyroid levels were checked at the time I was having heart investigations/heart attack. I am now awaiting the hospital records. I make no bones about it, I am trying to let some water under the bridge so I can live without bitterness but I still want to know all that went on. It’s a similar circumstance to many on this forum. Have we/are we being treated correctly? As I reported in a recent post I have just been turned down for an appointment by an endocrinologist. More supreme treatment. BUT lovely helpful replies from the forum. Just another excuse to have a bit of a rant. Apologies.
No need to apologise. Sharing your experiences and not sweeping your whole well-being (lack of) under the carpet with brush-off terms like “possibly peri-menopausal” or “only subclinical” is what this place is for, I would hope.
