hi i have just seen my endocrinologist today and he says i have graves’ disease and has put me on Propythiouracil 50mg per tablet and he wants me to take 200mg in the morning or 100mg in morning and afternoon.

He has said for me to have bloods done in 8 weeks and says he will review bloods in his virtual clinic and he will see me in 6 months is this normal to give meds and leave a patient for 6 months?

i was told in 2013 that i had an overactive thyroid and a goitor but today the doctor felt my neck and said i have not got a goitor can this be right ?

thanks for any advice x

Has your Graves disease been confirmed by testing postive for TSI/TRAb antibodies? If not you cannot confirm Graves.

Sounds more like Hashimoto's as already discussed in great length in your previous post, in which case the medication your endo has prescribed is incorrect.

Beeclare as the others are saying, you need TSI or Trab antibodies tested to confirm Graves. Unfortunately doctors including endocrinologists can wrongly assume that low TSH and above range thyroid hormones means hyperthyroid when infact it can also mean hypothyroid. The way to confirm which one it is is TSI or Trab antibodies which are found only in Graves.

Hashimotos hypothyroidism/autoimmune hypothyroidism has periods that mimic Graves disease. This is because your autoimmune system attacks and damages your thyroid and during that attack more thyroid hormones are released resulting in higher hormone levels and low TSH. After the attack when things settle back down hypothyroidism continues.

The treatments for hyperthyroid and hypothyroid are totally different.

The previous blood results are not typically Graves. Your TSH is suppressed (I think this is what the doctors are going by) which suggests Graves but your actual thyroid hormone results FT4 and FT3 are too low to for hyperthyroidism, in my opinion.. When I was hyper, my TSH was 0.01; my ft4 was 52 and my ft3 was 29. These are the sorts of levels that are more typical for an initial hyper patient.
