Welcome to the forum

How long have you been on levothyroxine

How long at current dose and what is your dose

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Do you have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Before considering booking any consultation, with any thyroid specialist you need to get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing done

Get all four vitamins optimal

ALWAYS test thyroid levels early morning, around 9am latest and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

If autoimmune thyroid disease, have you had coeliac blood test done

Are you on, or tried strictly gluten free diet

Please add most recent results and ranges

Meanwhile Email Thyroid U.K. for list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologist and doctors

Thanks, that's a lot of information that I'll take time time out to review. Yes same brand but I've never improved from when diagnosed. I've got a GP referral and need to get my head round the tests. I don't eat gluten as purely keto to stop my weight getting worse. Thanks for the help xx

Come back with new post once you get FULL thyroid and vitamin results

Frequently, symptoms improve with OPTIMAL vitamin levels

Hi,

I normally post on Pernicious Anaemia Society forum on HU.

A large number of the people who post there also have thyroid issues.

People with other causes of B12 deficiency besides PA also use the forum so worth a look if you suspect B12 deficiency.

From personal experience, possible to have severe B12 def. symptoms with normal serum (total) B12, I had dementia and spinal symptoms with normal range results.

The UK area you are in, has a poor reputation on PAS forum for diagnosis/treatment of B12 deficiency.

B12 deficiency symptoms can overlap with those of thyroid disease.

If you have time, have a look at symptoms lists on the two websites I listed in other reply.

As Sleepybunny says …it’s possible to have Paradoxical B12 deficiency with hypothyroidism

If you have time, look up Functional B12 deficiency, this is where there is plenty of B12 in the blood but it's not getting to where it's needed in the cells so the person develops the symptoms of B12 deficiency.

Functional B12 deficiency is mentioned in links below.
