Adviseable to raise dosage yourself

I am awaiting blood results from a test last week. I know that when I see them it will show the need for having a dosage increase. Hence getting a prescription for 150mcg. I was wondering whether to start it now by splitting a mercury pharma 100mcg into two 50mcgs and have that with a 100mcg. I have a few boxes of 100mcg. I also worked out that my dosage should be 150mcg with the 1.6mcg X 1 Kilo of weight I weigh just under 15 stone and the calculations come up as 150.6

if your GP has increased your prescription to 150mcg then your thyroid blood result must have come through to the surgery, or they wouldn't have increased the prescription. So i don't quite understand the question . If he's prescribed 150mcg , you don't need to see your TSH result before you start to take 150mcg.

Do you mean the GP has contacted you to increase to 150mcg but you just haven't seen the TSH result yet ? If so, and you want to increase dose before you can pick up the new prescription, then , yes you can cut a spare 100mcg tablet in half to get 150mcg dose .

( frankly, sod the GP even if they haven't prescribed 150mcg ,....he's got a blood test on 125mcg , so if you have enough tablets and you feel like you now want to try 150mcg ..just do it ..... but keep an eye out for any symptoms of overmedication creeping in )

Yes I know either tommorow or Wednesday they will say I need a dosage lift to 150mcg. Thats why I think I might as well start before the prescription gets approved. I also have a box of 25mcg If I took two of them that would equate to 50mcg as well.

To be honest my surgery is useless. They even admitted I should have had bloods done few months after August 2021 but they never contacted me about it. So now I am quite unwell I feel like I have a constant hangover feeling dizzy all the time. Yes last time the dosage increase sorted this out and I have been Okayish for nearly a year but when it hits you again it becomes so demoralising.

I think you are being overconfident in stating you know they will increase prescription You previous results had high T4 and low TSH if i remember correctly ,and GP's were suggesting a dose decrease to 125/100 alternate which you had to fight against . You may well be right that 150mcg will improve how you feel .. but you cant just assume what your bloods will be telling the GP based on how you feel ... you are just as likely to get a message saying 'you are still overmedicated .we want you to reduce your dose your new prescription is for 125/100 alternate"

Unless you have enough tablets to increase to 150mg for at least 6 weeks it's a fairly useless experiment because just increasing to 150mcg for a couple of weeks won't be long enough to tell you much ...

also ... it is unusual for thyroid bloods to take so much longer than other blood to come back... if by some chance there was some problem with the sample at the lab, meaning they couldn't do the thyroid tests , then your GP may be about to ask you to repeat the blood test .... which you will mess up if you've already been taking 150mcg for a few days .....

In August 2020 my TSH was 5.2 and My FT4 was 18. They then didn't say anything to me about raising my dosage. The result of that was May 2021s test with a TSH of 8.3 and FT4 of 17. At that time last year I told them I knew what the issue was and they were suggesting I was wrong. That was until they got the results and immediately increased my dosage. I know what your saying though. They wanted me to cut down on the levo due to a low TSH yet I was feeling fine at the time. In my experience this has happened to me four times. In 2017 after glandular fever. I was getting readings of 17 for TSH and the Dr said I was borderline nothing to worry about, it will right itself. Took me 6 months to be prescribed 50mcg. In february 2018 they put me up to 75mcg then to 100mcg. for those three years 2018-2021.
