Hi,
I keep reading here that it's OK to take cbd and levothyroxine, a couple of hours apart. But I read on some medical sites that it's not safe. I'm so confused. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I keep reading here that it's OK to take cbd and levothyroxine, a couple of hours apart. But I read on some medical sites that it's not safe. I'm so confused. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Did the medical sites say why it's not safe? Not safe in general? Or not safe when you're hypo? Without knowing full details, I wouldn't comment, except to say I took it for years with no ill consequences. In fact, it did me a lot of good. And, I'm hypo.
Something about them both using the same enzymes so putting the liver under too much strain.
I haven't heard anything about that. Do you have any links to these sites?
it's being looked into .. there was a mouse study in 2019 showing liver issues, (but using pretty massive doses) which is what has caused the liver concern. mdpi.com/1420-3049/24/9/1694 But Initial results from cannabis producers study currently underway in humans shows less cause for concern , but they are ongoing. validcare.com/news/clinical...
I'm keeping half an eye on it , but i'm not particularly worried.
i've used CBD in unverifiable amounts for decades, and the last 20 yrs on Levo any bloods i have had done for 'liver function' have always been OK according to the GP .. but to be fair i know 'nothing much' about liver function tests.
I should save them when I read them but I not that organised. Here's one of them from health.harvard.edu/blog/cbd... Quote "Potentially serious drug interactions with CBD included
a common blood thinner, warfarina heart rhythm medication, amiodaronea thyroid medication, levothyroxineseveral medications for seizure, including clobazam, lamotrigine, and valproate."
I'm afraid that link doesn't work for me. But, honestly, when I was taking it, I didn't notice any problems. And they do say just 'potential', not definite. And, I would take that with a pinch of salt, anyway because so many establishment figures are anti-cannabis.
I know what you mean about not being organised. I do save links when I read articles, but afterwards can never find them! Which is not much better. lol
OK, so managed to open it this time.
In other words, taking CBD at the same time with OTC or prescription medications...
I think I've always said that CBD should be taken at least two hours away from everything.
The article is not very specific, is it. I don't know if you've read any giving more precise information, but where levo and the liver is concerned, if the CBD is competing for the same enzymes as levo, causing altered concentration, this would surely show up in a blood test, and you would just need to increase your dose of levo. But, entirely up to you if you want to try it or not.
I have taken cbd since I started taking levothyroxine, about 4years ago. My anxiety and insomnia was driving me bonkers. It totally helped me, I took it at night and levothyroxine first thing in the morning. I now take it when I feel I need to.
If I had not found this fantastic forum and listened to my gp, I would have been on antidepressants, beta blockers and sleeping tablets.
