Is this a thyroid symptom?

Hello, trying to tie everything together and wondering if having a consistent dull ache in the bladder region and feeling the need to go to the toilet more often is possibly a thyroid symptom? I’ve had it for some time but it has been getting worse, its more like a muscular weakness/nerve issue but GP and urologist said they couldn’t find anything wrong?

Thanks

Make an appointment with your GP if the following sounds similar to your condition.

Yes, I'm certain it's a hypo symptom!

See list of symptoms here -

My thyroid history is complicated but medication with levo would probably help... will look at your earlier posts. PS See below

A dull ache in my lower abdomen with urgency and frequency to pee.

It affects quality of life....quite badly!

Have they ruled out a UTI? Probably!!I've had recurring UTIs for many years, not always picked with routine tests.

Recent advice was drink plenty water, rest, use a hot water bottle and take paracetamol!

I would have been as well munching on Smarties!

More recently, I persisted and kept handing in samples!

It took 3 urine culture tests,....eventually the third came back showing various bacteria.

A new GP (to me) , prompted by an observant practice nurse, read through all my urology notes decided I needed to have one week's strong antibiotic followed long term alternating low dose antibiotics, along with Methenamine twice daily.

He has a new "fan"!!

I was hugely relieved because that is what an urologist had advised 9 years ago but medics in more recent times didn't consider that needed to be repeated.

I've just finished the strong antibiotic, and about to start the low dose protocol, so it's wait-and-see-time now.

Apparently the bacteria had become embedded in the bladder wall and any short courses of (various) antibiotics had only cleared the bacteria sloshing about in the bladder leaving the embedded bacteria to continue causing problems, so after a few weeks symptoms reoccurred.

This might help build a case for treatment.

Pelvic floor exercises should also help

I'm afraid you need to keep pushing to be heard...more lab tests!

Bill Clinton has just suffered from sepsis resulting from an untreated or wrongly treated UTI!!

Good luck....I empathise

DD

Edit...

Just looked at your labs from 5 months ago.

TSH was 2.4...unfortunately medics will say "normal"

If medicated TSH should be 1 or under

If not medicated no higher than 2

It might be a hard push but given your family history a trial of levo may be helpful...starting dose 50mcg

i had this .. or something like it .. when slightly overmedicated on Levo. It felt a bit like having cystitis but without any burning pain on peeing.

And also felt like i had weak bladder muscles

A slight reduction in my levothyroxine dose fixed it . (was on 125mcg , reduced to 112.5mcg)

I also had very slight tremor in fingers , and very tight calf muscles, and was very 'jumpy' if startled by sudden noises. which i now realise are other signs of slight overmedication for me.

(If you think you may be overmedicated , a simple test is to hold arms out in front (palms down) and see of you can see a very slight tremor in fingers.... It can be easier to see the tremor if you balance a sheet of paper on the back of the hand.. but i can see it without doing that )
