Good morning. Or afternoon, there. Has anybody used the home kits for blood work related to thyroid? Thank you!

Can see you are in USA

There are private testing companies in USA

You need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3, tested

plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

As you have Hashimoto’s low vitamin levels are extremely common

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Always test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking?

Are you currently taking any T3 or NDT

Thank you. Are they worthy?

No, I haven't ever used home lab tests, but I would if they were reasonably priced. So please let us know if you find them, and the cost.Once I forgot my insurance card when I went for some lab tests, so thinking it would cost maybe $50 or so, I asked how much I would pay without insurance. It would have been $725 (£533)!! For one set of labs.

It blows me away when I read posts from people in the UK, who can get their own lab tests for £29!

Xheila, are you in USA? That is exactly what they wanted from my pocket at the lab. If you are, check this website. palomahealth.com

Yes, in the US. Thanks for the resource! I'll check out your link and Slow Dragon's. x

PLACES TO ORDER YOUR OWN TESTS–

The first five are US-based.

a few places that you can get tested without involving a doctor or your insurance company.

Thank you.

Xiflo, your link was the only lab that offers tests in my state (New York). The links from SlowDragon were cheaper, but I think $99 is reasonable, less than 1/7 what Quest wanted. Thank you for posting!

in reply to Xheila

There are other places, too where you can buy the tests and then go to Quest for a fraction of the price. Also, look for discounts with these people in google. I have not used them yet but they look interesting. Let me know how it goes.

Got to the end of ordering a kit, but found that they are not able to provide this resource in New York. I guess NY and Maryland have tighter regulations. 🤪

I thought Florida was problematic!

I have read that those who can do things like go to a neighbouring state.

in reply to helvella

I am quite convincing myself of that!

in reply to helvella

What about ultalabs.com? You have to go to Quest but for a frction of the price. I'm going to use it. And ask them for discount code. They always offer 20% off of the total.

No idea about any of them! I am in the UK.

in reply to helvella

You have better prices there. The other day, I went to a lab and they wanted over 750 dollars for them. I had to cancel my appointment. The prices here are so unreal.

Once I was travelling in the UK and ended up with an embarrassing medical problem. I went to a clinic and blurted out my situation to reception. Upon intake, she asked my "surname." I couldn't immediately remember if surname meant first or last name, so I hesitated. She looked at me, thinking my hesitation was due to my embarrassment, and said, "that's o.k., you don't need to give me your real name." I was floored. They would treat someone from another country, for free, and not even need my i.d., or even my real name. I have such respect for countries who actually take care of patients despite their ability to pay.

in reply to Xheila

Yes. Here, they treat you but then they bill you. I love England. I was lucky to stay in the West Midlands for a while and attend Warwick University. I watch the news from the BBC when I have time. I wish you well. You can send me a private message if you wish so, we do not bother the other users with our nation things. I love my country of choice. I do not understand medical charges. LOL.

I think you might find that the issues of treating non-residents have resulted in a much less open system.

Even people with right to be here and absolute entitlement to NHS treatment have been turned down at point of delivery.

I am so sorry to hear that. My experience was from 1998, a different time.

Thanks, I did notice that I can travel to the next state (100 miles) for most of the tests. At least it's good to have that option.
