Hi all,

I’m currently pregnant suffering awful morning sickness was bedridden a few weeks but in the up now. Had anti nausea meds etc etc. I just wondered if anyone has it worse with their thyroid medication I seem to be more nauseous with my thyroid meds. I tested a few days without taking and felt a lot better. Anyone had this? Is it too much hormone in me making me sick?

As you had large increase in levothyroxine a month ago as you were extremely under medicated you need bloods retested

Baby is totally relying on your levothyroxine until they have thyroid of their own

How many weeks pregnant are you

Essential to take levothyroxine everyday without fail

Are you splitting the levothyroxine into two doses, waking and bedtime

Or if less nauseous in evenings taking whole dose levothyroxine at bedtime

Hi, thanks, I tried taking at bedtime and was so nauseous the next day. I tested without and hardly any morning sickness and can function. 🤔 Not sure really if it may just be too much right now

Thyroid hormones are crucial for normal development of your baby’s brain and nervous system. During the first trimester—the first 3 months of pregnancy—your baby depends on your supply of thyroid hormone, which comes through the placenta NIH external link. At around 12 weeks, your baby’s thyroid starts to work on its own, but it doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone until 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Hi Maryah, I can't give you any advice re thyroid meds and morning (ha ha!!) sickness but am sending you great sympathy. What worked for me, in the 8th month of my 3rd pregnancy (it didn't stop at 3 months), was aromatherapy. I don't know what I was given, drops to put in my bath at night, but it worked like magic so it might be worth exploring that.

I can't help on the meds side, but try wearing travel bands, the ones you get from the chemist for sea sickness. I have had friend suffer with morning sickness and the bands work well.

Give them a go for a couple of days. We had a lady who was hospitalised with severe morning sickness and the only thing that would stop it was acupuncture on the same spot that the travel bands press on. Get fingers 1,2 &3 of your hand, put them together and use them to measure down from your wrist crease. Thats where the button needs to go, between the tendons in th middle of your wrist! mskcc.org/cancer-care/patie...

You might request a different brand in case it’s the fillers which set you off. You can take with food like crackers but might need to increase the dose. But better than not taking or not keeping it down as so very important for baby.

It could be the brand you’re right

I had a pregnancy without Levo and it was horrendous … horrible panic attacks I’ve not experienced since. I had a pregnancy with levo. Completely different.
