Do I need to alter T4 dose during 28 day cycle.

Have been on 125/150 alternate days and have felt very well now for many weeks. No brain fog, no low mood, and enthusiastic about life.

Previously I have felt unwell on the above dose and decided that as long as my TSH was not too low I could tolerate dose.

I'm now wondering if my intolerance to dose may have been more to do with were in my monthly cycle I was. Now after being perfectly well on dose for over six weeks I feel unwell again. Blurry vision requiring my glasses daily again, extremely low mood, and I don't recognise myself. I really don't know if it's my TSH again which has reached 0.0 or it's because I'm a week away from my period or both.

Dose was initially increased from 125mcg T4 daily due to feeling unwell with ongoing hypothyroid symptoms. Increase dose did not alter symptoms of constipation, nor did increased vegetable consumption, fruit consumption aleviate constipation. The increased dose did not alter dry skin, hair or exhaustion after exercise or recovery times.

I've read the link and feel too overwhelmed to ever be able to work through this mountain of tests to discover and restore hormonal harmony and feel that it down to me alone to fix it as Health professionals seem OK with just issueing me T4 and I'm good to go.

It's important to know that the TSH does not affect how you feel. It does not cause symptoms whether it's high or whether it's low. It just stimulates the thyroid to make more hormones when levels are low, and drops when when levels are good, optimal or too high.

However, you cannot tell if thyroid hormone levels are optimal or too high just from looking at the TSH, because once it reaches zero, it can't go any lower. So, what you need is your FT3 tested, because the FT3 is the active hormone, and it's T3 that causes symptoms when too high or too low.

So, have you had your FT3 tested since you started feeling unwell again?

Two days later and symptoms have disappeared on there own ?? Taking same dose just missed one day.

I'm beginning to believe I'm one of those people that are going to blame my medication for everything😬. Oops.

Must be environmental. Was clouded over for a few days I'm thinking that must be the cause. Also I posted a letter through my neighbours door to ask if she could trim back her ugly budlia which is a foot and half into my space😀. Seeing as she is always the first to moan about over grown budlia I didn't expect a curse on me the following days. 😆😂. Don't think I'll ask again.

Do you think she's a witch, then? lol I rather like budlia, it attracts so many butterflies. Glad you're feeling better, anyway. :)

Well she has a cat, a particularly unfriendly spitting kind, I have no idea where the cat gets its temperment from . 🙈🙉🙊. I'm not keen on budlia, butterflies are beautiful but they don't seem to go near this budlia, may sense the demon cat from hell.

Thank you, I am feeling better. 😀

The menstrual cycle does affect TSH level, yes.( And estrogen does affect thyroid hormone transport) healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... do-tsh-levels-naturally-increase-during-menstruation

However , i would think that trying to do anything about this by adjusting Levo every few weeks is unlikely to be any good .

The half life of Levo T4 is about 7 days , meaning it takes a few days for a small change in T4 dose to have the final effect on fT4 result. And TSH especially once it's supressed can take weeks/months to respond to a change in Levo dose. So i don't think trying to replicate how the body might naturally adjust to female hormone cycles is a realistic option once taking T4.

In the natural course of things (ie. thyroid healthy , not taking thyroid hormones) you wouldn't have a supressed TSH .. and TSH ( when not taking thyroid hormone) is the body's main tool for rapidly adjusting our T4/3 ratio's .

I suspect that the instability caused by upping/ lowering dose every few weeks would cause more problems than it solved. and presumably it would be very difficult to get the timing right anyway ?

Thanks for reply tattybogle, Estrogen falls during menstrual bleed so don't understand why TSH would go up, thought it would go down ??.

I agree trying to alter T4 would be more trouble in the long term, my hands really do suffer when I'm hypo.

Strange enough I feel better today, all symptoms gone?? I really don't understand why but I'm guessing it is probably environmental variables that are causing my symptoms and probably not my Levo
