My friend has suffered psychosis in the past and she is very skinny, gets very hungry and suffers if she has to wait for food, she's highly anxious, easily flares up, easily burns out, obsessses about things, can have outbursts, screaming at people suddenly if she's under pressure or emotional. I suspect she might be hyperthroid. I've encouraged her to get tested but she hasn't to date. I think she thinks it is a mental illness and so not to do with thyroid, or maybe she just hasn't got round to it, I don't know. I wonder if there's anyone who recognises those symptoms who is hyperthroid out there?

Hyperthroid - anyone recognise these symptoms? Also any connection with psychosis and mental instability?

I'm sorry you're friend is suffering at present. I believe - in the past - that people were thought of having a mental breakdown when the person was 'out of control'.
You can tell her that it would be beneficial to get a blood test as help can be given by NHS.
Blood drawn should be at the very earliest, fasting (she can drink water) and she should request a Full Thyroid Blood Test.
Hello Pamela :
If you go on the Thyroid Uk website, just scroll up on here and you'll see there are now over 118 thousand members, you will find eveything you need to know about all things thyroid, and within there is a section listing symptoms of both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid.
Another excellent source on all things Graves Disease is the Elaine Moore Graves Disease Foundation website where there is also an open forum for sufferers and their loved ones gain greater understanding of all things " Graves ":
The symptoms you list are well detailed as is the Grave's Rage that many people suffer.
I am with lingering Graves following RAI thyroid ablation on 2005 and I now self medicate and buy my own full spectrum thyroid hormone replacement as the NHS refused my request for a treatment option, other than T4 - Levothyroxone in 2018.

Can you encourage her to get tested….via GP or private testing
For full Thyroid evaluation she needs TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, with Graves’ disease or Hashimoto’s
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Hello, I have graves disease and can certainly relate to some of these issues.I lost over a stone I really couldn't afford to lose and did have raging hunger.I felt as if my stomach was eating itself.I was also hypersensitive to things, obsessing about things and couldn't let them go.Certainly I felt I was behaving in a way that wasn't me.When you see how much the whole body needs a balanced thyroid you can understand why people can feel so mentally and physically ill.
natural progesterone cream is good for psychosis you can buy it online make sure progesterone usp is in the ingredients
That's interesting thank you, that suggests psychosis can be related to hormone imbalance, is that right?
Absolutely postpartum psychosis happens when progesterone drops dramatically after giving birth also some bipolar disorder cases in women are caused by hormone inbalance , someone even claims that schizophrenia is caused by low progesterone which is pretty exciting imo, The late Dr Katherina Dalton discovered that low progesterone was the reason so many women suffer from PMS - she coined the term PMS so her books are well worth reading
