Low energy....even walking up a small hill is exhausting
There are a lot of problems that are commonly found in hypothyroidism that affect the amount of energy people have.
Low levels (or levels that just aren't right for you) of Free T3 and Free T4.
Anaemia.
Low iron/ferritin.
Low folate/vitamin B12.
Low vitamin D (tends to cause more muscle-related problems, at least initially).
Low zinc/high copper.
High zinc/low copper (much more rare than the reverse).
Low magnesium.
Another source of low energy is that people often gain weight with hypothyroidism and so the sufferer starts messing with their diet, often eating too little for good health in anyone. Then they decide to cut out this, or cut out that, not realising that they may be essential for having the best possible health. People may benefit from cutting out some things e.g. going gluten-free helps lots of people with thyroid disease. Some benefit from going lactose-free.
It's the condition Pixipot you will feel better when your meds are right. In the meantime if you can convince your GP to test your vitamin D, B12 folate and ferritin, you may feel better getting these in range. Try giving up gluten because it confuses the immune system as it's molecules look very like thyroid molecules. This can get better it just takes time sorry..
I am hypo too but in my case it was mainly due to low Magnesium and low vitamin D. Always do your blood test before taking any minerals or vitamins. Sometimes overloading one May cause deficiency of another. I have also MTHFR genetic mutation C667T so if I take folic acid I feel bad but when I take Bioactive folate my brain fog goes away and I feel energetic. Since I left eating gluten my body feels better as well. My vitamin B is normal.
I now get regular vit tests, but check them out here as what the gp says is in range is often not what actually helps you feel ok. I feel better for taking vit D, Vit B12 and bit b complex. I take magnesium and omega 3 also. It's taken me ages to understand it all, my brain is still a bit on the slow side.
I feel tired 24/7 but I find that even though Iām totally exhausted, I have to really push myself. So at the beginning of June I started back in the gym and 3 weeks on I have to say itās not as difficult as it was to get moving but itās still difficult to get out of bed and not just turn over and go back to sleep, it takes real willpower. Possibly the fact that I canāt just go to the gym when I feel like it and have to now book a slot due to covid helps. So I now go 5 mornings during the week, first thing, I donāt go crazy, I just follow a keep fit plan and it seems to be working, in fact I got back a couple of days ago and spent most of the day, clearing up the garden that I had been putting off for weeks and slept like a baby that night. Also Iāve lost 4lbs, which is a tenth of what I need to lose but itās a start. Like others have said try and get your vitamins optimal and donāt just accept what the GP thinks is ok for you, as they tend to palm you off by saying that youāre in the normal range, which also could be bottom end of normal.
Hi, following on from all the excellent advice from other members I suffered badly with fatigue and breathlessness. After negotiating an increase in levo there was a dramatic change. Iām still not back to completely normal but Iām able to walk a couple of miles without stopping āto admire the view!ā
