I new here and need help. I don't know what to do and who can help

Hello,

This is the first post I've written here, and the first time I joined any forum, but I'm in need and hope that someone here can point me in the right direction.

I suffer from severe PMS, with symptoms that the GP's and Gynecologists have never come across. I'm 38 years old and have left my full-time job as a Primary Teacher. My life is affected by this, and even though I have unwillingly left my job, I still get the symptoms.

My immune system goes low, I have extreme sneezing episodes, I'm fatigued, freezing, can get feverish, headaches, sensitivity to light, rhinitis and flu-like symptoms. I have more symptoms, but the former are more intense.

When I was a teenager, these symptoms lasted a day or two. Now they are lasting 2-3 weeks, so basically I am ill for most of the year continuously. My hair loss is worrying, I have thinned badly and I'm getting unwanted hair on my face and ears.

One GP said I will prob have to wait until menopause, because she doesn't know what it is. Some specialists didn't do any blood tests but asked me to take antidepressants.

I am feeling so tired and drained physically and emotionally and I feel no -one is really listening to me.

I try my best to deal with it and be positive, but it is now more than 24 years of symptoms and as I get older I just feel too tired to cope. I am at the end of my tether.

Please let me know if you have heard of these symptoms or know of anyone who can help.

I was looking for an endocrinologist in Hertfordshire. Please can anyone recommend one?

Thank you in advance for any advice x

Hey - have you been tested for thyroid issues by your GP? A lot of your symptoms could be thyroid related.

Hello , i was trying to find you a recent post by someone with Hypothyroidism and PMDD (ie EXTREMELY bad PMS for want of a better description) , but unfortunately i can't find it anymore ... however someone on there gave me a link to this american site womensmentalhealth.org/spec... which i found extremely interesting on the subject, so you might find something useful if you look around on it.

Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time... have you ever had your Thyroid Function tested ? (Blood tests ...TSH /fT4 /fT3 )......i've seen two people on here with PMDD who have reported that starting treatment with thyroid hormones helped /removed symptoms of PMDD better than anything else they had ever tried .. and one of them had tried everything, and was, like you, 'waiting for the menopause'...... unfortunately, she's the one i can't find now so i can't tell you who it was .

I don't know if the problems you have are similar to PMDD or just 'normal' PMS, as i don't know much about it , but i just wanted to give you that link in case it helps at all , and say Hello and Welcome x

Hi, thank you for your reply and warm welcome. I really appreciate your thoughts and advice. Yes, I have been told my symptoms are more like PMDD, but even so, the doctors only want to treat the syptoms and look no further. You metioned treating hormones would reduce PMDD symptoms, that makes sense thinking about it now. I should get thyroid tested as soon as I can. Thank you for the link, I will check it out asap

Have you been tested to see what your progesterone levels are?The pioneering PMS researcher & physician Dr Katherina Dalton is worth googling. She wrote The PMS Bible & made the progesterone connection. She ran a clinic in London until her death.I am assuming your medics have ruled out PCOS?Thinning head hair & facial hair growth are signs of PCOS.

PMDD may be relevant?

If it was me,I would be looking for a highly recommended hormone specialist.

Have you been found negative for endometriosis?

Don't give up!Look for a forum like this one for sex hormone imbalances?

Hi, thanks so much for replying. in regard to your question if I have been tested, no one has tested me for progesterone levels or thyroid, as others have mentioned. I think it is PMDD, but I haven't considered PCOS or Endometriosis. I will definitely look into it. And looking for a sex hormone imbalance forum is such a good idea, thank you!

Do post the results of your thyroid hormone blood tests on here, with the reference ranges, for people to comment.I am myself waiting for the results of a Medichecks comprehensive thyroid home finger-prick test.Medichecks,Blue Horizon,Genova or other labs may prove useful to you for testing more than thyroid hormone levels in your search for better health.
