Blood results help please
Hi Kayhall1, welcome to the forum.
Despite what they have said, your B12 is much too low. In fact, at that level, your GP should be testing for Pernicious Anemia. And, that low B12 could be making you feel very bad. If you want more details on that, you could ask on the PA forum, they know more than I do:
Your vit D is pretty low, too. No ferritin/iron tested?
As for your thyroid, unfortunately you don't give any details on your profile. To be able to comment, we would need to know if you already have a diagnosis of hypo, and if you're on thyroid hormone replacement. But, in any case, just testing the TSH is totally inadequate. You also need the FT4 and FT3 tested, and antibodies if they've never been done before. And, to get all that, you might have to do some private testing, because your GP doesn't sound very clued up, I'm afraid.
Thank you so much. I think a private test is definitely my next step. The GP is useless I’m afraid. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply, thank you xx
Just to confirm I am on no medication I requested blood test because I feel so rough and can’t get any answers. I always get told everything is normal xx
Well, to be fair, doctors know nothing about nutrients, they don't learn about them in med school. And, as they don't know much about interpreting blood test results, either, to them anything in-range is perfect. That's why forums like this exist.
But, if you can get your B12 sorted, that will probably make you feel a lot better. And, for the thyroid, we'll wait and see what sort of results a private test gives you. But, it could be that it is just the B12, and nothing to do with your thyroid. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thank you very much. I have some B12 shots at home but I understand you need to take other things to help the body absorb it? Is it folic acid? Or have I got it wrong? Thanks again for your help xx
No, you're not wrong. But, not just folic acid. A B complex, with all the Bs, because they all work together and need to be kept balanced. Best to get one with methylfolate, rather than folic acid. Thorn and Igennus both do good ones which you can find on Amazon.
I agree with Grey Goose and am a bit puzzled by the reply from the PA forum 🤔. If the B12 result is 2000, it will have been skewed by previous injections and you could still have B12 deficiency. BMA research document emphasises that there is no reliable test and you should be diagnosed and treated on symptoms.
