Ever changing TSH?

Runner169 profile image
20 Replies

I posted about my daughters high TSH level at 5.34 & lowish FT4 8.6 bloods taken on 30/12/2020. I’ve since had bloods done privately & the level has dropped to 1.57! Is this normal for it to fluctuate? I also have no idea about the other results. She’s having seizures, lowish morning cortisol, headaches/migraine, unexplained vomiting & her eyesight has deteriorated. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Roughly how old is she?

Her B12 and folate are very low

She needs testing for Pernicious Anaemia

Is she vegetarian or vegan

She doesn’t eat a lot of meat but does take daily lansoprazole. My sister has PA but I’d assumed as it had gone up, it was 149, the supplements were working. I have mentioned it to the consultant. Do you have any thoughts about the other results? Thanks 😊

Why is she taking Lansoprazole?

Lansoprazole is a ppi and should only be prescribed for short course

All PPI lower vitamin levels especially B12 and magnesium

PPI is to treat HIGH stomach acid

Often people have LOW stomach acid.....virtually identical symptoms but very different treatment required

Low stomach acid can be a common hypothyroid issue

Thanks. She has PR bleeding with no known cause. Had lots of cameras! They’ve seen something in her stomach lining which they’ve not see before but doesn’t seem untoward. She took lansoprazole for pain. It helped so she’s been on it for a long time. I am seeing the gastro consultant about this soon with the possibility of her coming off it. The eyesight has been checked by the hospital it can’t be corrected so they are doing electro testing to see how her brain is communicating. Do you know why her TSH changed. Is that normal?

Perhaps push for B12 injections

Ask advice on PAShealthunlocked too

Yes I saw this. Thank you. But she’s had lower B12 in previous years without seizures.

The longer B12 deficiency goes on the more symptoms appear

Recommend watching

Could it be B12

Thanks. Do you think the magnesium is something to worry about? She doesn’t supplement that.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toRunner169

Well normally on PPI checking for low magnesium, so seems a bit odd. But it’s only very slightly raised

What vitamin supplements is she currently taking?

Runner169 profile image
Runner169 in reply toSlowDragon

Yes I read that about PPIs so it’s usual. I’d love her to stop taking it if I’m honest. She only takes vit D & B12. But takes midodrine for BP too as she’s got POTs. But I can’t see that causing any issues. She’s definitely a medical mystery.

midodrine Contains magnesium....just looked it up

Runner169 in reply toSlowDragon

Does it? I’ll chat to her cardiologist see what he thinks. Thanks

Level of magnesium is fine anyway....it explains where magnesium was from

Ah okay. I see where you’re coming from. She had another seizure tonight. They seem to be getting more frequent 😞

Push GP/ consultant to consider B12 injections

Are they aware your sister (her Aunt) has PA
