Hi

For those who have been following what I’ve been posting, my GP re-test results have come back. Although not been contacted as my GP is seeking advice from a specialist.

Also done a full blood count will post that after as I can’t seem to do both images.

Can anyone help me understand please?

Thank you.

These tests clearly show you have hypothyroidism

High TSH, well over top of range

As is common when hypothyroid you also have folate deficiency and vitamin D deficiency

B12 very low

You also need to have ferritin tested

GP should be starting you on levothyroxine

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg.

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Dose is increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is stable UNDER 2

Important to also be prescribed vitamin D and folic acid to improve low vitamin levels

Hypothyroidism is EXTREMELY common, your GP should be well aware how to treat ..

Vitamin D

GP should prescribe 300,000iu in total of Vitamin D over 6-8 weeks.

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

Once you Improve level, you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

See/speak to different GP

gp-update.co.uk/Latest-Upda...

See flow chart on top of page 2

It’s quite clear

TSH over 10 equals lifelong treatment with levothyroxine

Starting on 50mcg levothyroxine while vitamins are slowly improved by supplementing

You will need several more dose increases in levothyroxine over the coming months
