I am trying to undo the holiday period of 3 years my endocrinologist has started to tampering me down from 25 mg hydrocortisone to 15mg from this week and let’s keep on this level first and what happens Can’ suppressed adrenal glands be fixed after this length of time
Hidden is our expert patient on this subject.
Hi I was misdiagnosed with primary adrenal insufficiency and after 2 years I was diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency due to being prescribed hydrocortisone so I am now on hydrocortisone for 3 years and finally I have being tampered down off the hydrocortisone to see if my suppressed adrenal glands will be active again
I have had the Synatchen test also when I was diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency but wasn’t tested when I was diagnosed first when I had pneumonia
I also have CHF but I am still fit and fighting
But with great difficulty as this part of endocrine is a very grey area
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for the input every bit of information helps
Tapering should be very slow. Generally start with the last dose of the day and reduce this by 2.5 mg. Continue at that dose for a few days then reduce the dose before your last dose by 2.5mg and stay at that dose for a few days. So if it was my dosing schedule which is 15mg, 7.5mg, 5mg I would reduce the 5mg dose to 2.5 and stay at that level for as long as I needed u til I stabilised. Then I would reduce the 7.5mg dose to 5mg and stay there for a few days. Then I would reduce the 15mg dose to 12,5mg and stay on that dose for a few days. Once I knew that I was feeling ok I would then reduce the middle dose of the day to 2.5mg and then I would reduce the first dose of the day a few days later. At any time if you start to feel unwell, go back up to the dose where you felt ok.

How's your thyroid function? You won't be able to come off hydrocortisone unless your thyroid levels are optimal. I'm on 20mg of hydrocortisone myself and I have attempted a few times to wean off but I feel shakey and nervous after a few days on the lower dose. How are you taking it, in what doses during the day?
Hi All my bloods are out of tune due to my condition but I will be tampering down under supervision with blood tests under an endocrinologist
But I understand what you are saying as I am on eltroxin for thyroid problem as well
Endocrine is a very grey area especially when everything that goes wrong is connected and the main problem has to be isolated to find the ethology of the main problem
I will get to the bottom of the case in hand and then I should be able to help a lot of people with endocrine problems
I am learning a lot of knowledge as I sort out my own case in hand
