I wonder how many GP's /Endo's would score highly in this country.

I hope the above link works.

Unfortunately i think many would not even be able to tick 'yes' to even one of those points.The ladybird book of thyroid treatment just say's ;

TSH low = panic and reduce dose.

TSH high = if it's really really high increase dose , otherwise it's fine.

What's an fT3 ? don't know so best ignore it.

Do not engage Brain further, or you'll get confused.

Maybe that is the thyroid textbook the medical profession rely on at university!

I think they used to have a big fat thyroid textbook book that included many chapters on clinical symptoms, but i read that most of these chapters have been slowly removed over the decades since the almighty TSH test became dominant.Which would explain why they don't know about everything we do like cholesterol and muscles and brains and . and .and . and.

And i don't think western medicine has EVER noticed the logic of the idea that 'you are what you eat'

I'd like to see a survey of NHS GP's responses to their level of understanding on the point's raised in this article .

It would provide a very useful guide to 'who NOT to see'

I bought an old edition of Werner & Ingbar for that very reason - far more info in it than the latest one.

Hi knitwitty❤️This was so enlitening, my history, ill with hyperthyroid symptoms for 2 years before diagnosis gp keep saying my thyroid bloods were in range, at that time I did not request to look at them😠 silly I know as I know better now!! I requested my records some months ago and found going bk TSH test of 1.00, 0.6...to 0.1...but gp engorged them as it said normal no action.. Also only one T3 done then no T3 or T4 done after, only TSH.. Upshot I had graves toxic thyroid, in hospital for 12 days in thyroid crisis😠 thyroid removed 2019, NOW here's the tricky part when I was eventually diagnosed I asked my gp if every person would have the same TSH.. Example, would my TSH be the same as his, or Jane, June and Joyce, he kept mumbling we have ranges, I cut in saying yes BUT that proves nothing, surely you can't umbrella everyone with those ranges especially when the person clearly shows hyper symptoms ( I lost over 3 stone with this illness had a bad tremor, bad sweating, my hair fell out, my heart rate was off the scale and he never did anything about it he could clearly see I'd lost weight but never asked why, I told him why again nothing from him only go home and try to get fitter😠😠.. Upshot.. Went to see him in Aug 2018 has I collapse at home my son took me to the docs, saw him again OK he took bloods again they came bk as normal 😭 then on the 18th sep I collapsed again my son took me to the docs again, this time I saw a new gp she had just started a week ago, she took one look at me asked me to hold my hands out sat me down let me tell her what had been happening she requested emergency blood work took it herself then took it up to the lab's at my local hospital got results the next day TSH suppressed T3 24.2..hyperthyroidism later tests graves.. I really don't trust these ranges a better indication would be how the person is feeling and the symptoms they are having as was my case, NHS guidance on ranges need changed and GPS endos and specialist should consider looking in to why you feel so bad, I've seen people with thyroid problems have various ranges some feel good on that particular range and some feel awful.. Yes I have no doubt their are good doctors out their and bad ones, for 2 years I got a dud and lost my thyroid 😠😠

That is a terrible situation to be in, I hope you are feeling much better now, but it is a disgrace that so few doctors seem to know about thyroid disease in all its forms and even more importantly seem to care even less about educating themselves about it and its complexities . Good luck in the future .:)
