I have hashimoto and iodine deficiency. I developed diarrhea and pain in my throat and chest when eating. My 24hr urine test 5hydroxy HIAA was positive.
This can indicate neuroendocrine carcinoma. I am trying to find answer to the question whether iodine deficiency contributes to many diseases including cancer.
I sent email to a naturopatic doctor in the States who confirmed that there is a connection. If anyvody has a view on this topic please reply. Thank you. I am so anxious.

no I am not taking any thyroid medications I have subclinical hypo with raised TG antibodies only. I have been on thyroxin and nature throid for 15 years until I developed ectopic beats, my blood sugar was out of balance, weight, hair issues. I stopped the hormones 5 years ago and I didn't feel worse.
Recommend getting FULL thyroid and vitamin testing
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if no longer on any thyroid hormones
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
