NDT/T4, T3 combinations

Hi all, I've come to the end of my options for buying what's left of the european stock of Thai thyroid, anyone who has any left is charging the earth, and anyway I have to find an alternative, not just for myself but for my patients. I'm a naturopath. I've read the news on STTM about various NDTs which are now withdrawn because they have sub-optimal quantities of active ingredient, I do quite well on WP Thyroid but that's obviously out now.. So I'm wondering what everbody is doing about supply. I'm aware of a couple of synthetic products such as Novothyral which presumable needs a prescription, and also porcine and bovine products like Metavive. Is it worth trying to get a private prescription for the pharma products, or is it possible to sustain T4 and T3 levels with Metavive? I would be extraordinarily grateful for advice, bearing in mind pm rules re supply.

Hey aur2512 - sorry you had no replies - I have been on ndt for five years, thai thiroyd. Well that's not made any more - so I tried thyroactive, which turned out to be thyroinactive!!! Now been on metavive11 for six weeks, got my bloods back today, very happy with results. Mid range FT3, low FT4 (as usual) and supressed TSH. I did manage to overmedicate myself on them originially, as I swapped from 3 thiroyd/day to 3 metavie11/day. Now stable on 2 metavive11/day. So happy to find something that works and is available.

Thanks so much for your reply. I've started on Metavive, currently 4 a day as I was on a high dose of Thyroid S. I'll redo bloods in about 6 weeks, but I'm really glad they work for you! Best wishes, Sally

is Metavive II bovine?

No met1 and 11 are porcine, 111 and 1V are bovine

Have you ever tried the Bovine III and IV?

no I have not, I have always taken porcine ndt and did not see a reason to change that.
