Anyone who has one autoimmune disease is at much greater risk of getting another one.

90% of hypothyroidism in the UK is of autoimmune origin i.e. the immune system attacks the thyroid. Over time the thyroid will be destroyed.

I don't know any figures for rheumatoid arthritis but I do know it is an autoimmune disease too.

Hi humanbean, yes - I have both these autoimmune diseases! Double whammy, eh? Don't despair ... there are many of us around and we can share our experiences here. NRAS are such a helpful advisory source and I suggest you register with them for further support and advice. You can even akpply for a one 2 one 'buddy' to share scares and successes!
