I found out I was pregnant a week ago, I’m about 5 weeks. Until this morning I wasn’t aware that I would need to make any changes to my levothyroxine dose but it appears that it’ll likely need to be increased and not doing so could potentially harm the baby. I will call the GP today and I have a blood test booked for next week anyway but I wondered if anyone had any experience or advice? I’m feeling a bit worried that I didn’t know about this before
Thanks

“As soon as you know you are pregnant it is usually recommended that your levothyroxine is increased immediately by 25-50mcg daily. You should then contact your GP and arrange to have a thyroid blood test.”
When you have your test next week you’re aiming for your tsh to be under 2.5 preferably under 1.
It’s also a good idea to test vitamins as with thyroid issues these can be low. Vit d, folate, ferritin and b12 - if you’re on the low side all easy to correct with separate supplements.
Hello, I had to increase my levo by 25 each day when I was pregnant. If I were you I would add 25 to what ever dose you are taking at the moment. I would begin this tomorrow. Don’t worry 😉 XX
Thanks. It’s so weird, both the GP and the specialist endocrine nurse have said I should up the dose until I have my blood done next week it everyone else says I need to do it ASAP
