I have Hashimotos and take levothryroxine and liothyronine. The last year my skin has become paper thin, especially on my arms. Any idea why?

Paper thin skin bleeds so easily
Hi Bengalgal, Sorry that
you are experiencing that. I don't know what causes it, in my case its probably my age. They do say the skin gets thinner as we age.
Best to see your GP.

Has your Dr checked your platelets ? Low platelets can cause easy bleeding. I also found from my experience that high FT4 levels caused me to bleed easily . It's as if the high FT4 acted like a blood thinner. It would cause me nose bleeds too out of no where. Bruising happened easily too.
Skin issues aren't easy - you have to find the root cause and heal from the inside out. Maybe it's gut issues, maybe it's food intolerances, maybe it's nutrient deficiencies, or even just under-treated thyroid issues. I get the skin issues you describe, it's how my gluten intolerance shows itself but it might be different for you.
There was a great episode on skin this week on a podcast called "well fed women", the interviewee Jennifer Fugo has a good website and app for skin issues too, so worth checking out some of her info too. Check the two out - I learned so much in just an hour!
It could be due to the thyroid, but when this happened to me (many years ago now) my GP thought it could be due to poor nerve supply to the skin. He didn't consider increasing the frequency of my B12 shots for PA though. Once I started doing them myself, my skin condition gradually improved. It's still a bit delicate in places though.
