Thyroid disease remission (or recovery) feedback request

userotc profile image
15 Replies

Along with others on the forum, I'd be very interested to know who may have gone into remission from thyroid disease or even recovered. I'm aware of forum members who are interested for their children, if not themselves.

As you're probably aware, Isabella Wentz , or one, offers a remission protocol which adopts primarily natural methods.

Brief, relevant details such as length of time since diagnosis or symptoms would be useful, particularly if not on your profile.

Thanks for your time.

Graves disease (hyperthroidism) sometimes resolves itself for periods of time , but as far as i know Autoimmune Hypothyroidism is with you for the long haul.

i have read a (very occasional) case study of someone who stopped thyroxine when on holiday for 5 weeks , was then ok for a few yrs , and then developed Graves Hyperthyroidism. It is possible to get both. But not usual by any means. Some people have both stimulating and blocking antibodies of TRab (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Receptor Antibodies) and play tug of war between them, which can explain some of the stories of 'recovery'

But I'm primarlly interested in true remission, as proposed by Isabella Wentz.

Via naturally-based treatment protocols.

She hasn’t had remission...she takes replacement thyroid hormones...

She has regained full health by addressing nutrient deficiencies and food intolerances...and had a baby

Just had a brief look at one of her articles about the 20% who recover. She refers to a study showing 20 % who recovered after Levo was withdrawn. Recovery lasted for between 1-8 yrs. So remission possibly, rather than recovery.

I agree tattybogle I am on my second remission from Graves' and my last one lasted 4 years. I have now gone over a year and I have had a couple of small relapses but I hoping this one lasts longer.

Extremely rare for anyone diagnosed as having Hashimoto’s to recover enough to stop needing replacement thyroid hormones

By time of being diagnosed as hypothyroid, usually too much damage has been done

You might slow the complications of this insidious disease by working hard on maintaining optimal vitamin levels

Frequently addressing food intolerances can help too, usually strictly gluten free diet, sometimes lactose free as well or instead

With regard to the next generation......making sure they have OPTIMAL vitamin D levels may help prevent autoimmune disease progression

Thanks. I interpret your reply as there being a chance of remission/recovery if caught early enough and with better diet/wellbeing. This is understandable but I think Isabella Wentz extends the potential more than that (?).

She’s an American selling expensive online courses...so I would take that implication with a pinch of salt

But her advice on addressing nutrient depletion and inflammatory foods is all extremely helpful

Thanks to those that responded. Ideally I was hoping for feedback from patients who had had remission (or even recovery) by following I Wentz or similar protocol(s). Not implied criticism of Ms Wentz albeit with some acknowledgement of potential improvements in theory.

The reasons there's been no such positive feedback might vary. Hopefully some beneficiaries have understandably now left this forum after finding sufficient improvements/recovery.

Sorry if you took my reply as implied criticism . There was none , honest. It's just that i like to make sure anything i write here can be backed up by fact,or personal experience, so i wrote what i found when fact checking, since i haven't had experience of remission.

When i first started researching about other way's of helping Hypothyroidism many yrs ago i was concerned by how much passionately presented information i found online , that later turned out to be contrary to the biology that is known on thyroid function.

I do think that her advice all seems to be very sensible, it's just that since you asked about remission/ recovery , that's what i addressed , on the basis of what i have learn from quite wide reading over the years.

Wishing you well in your search for better health

Tat

Actually I wasnt referring to your comments which were constructive - thanks. But it does not matter as the purpose of my post was to get feedback from anyone on here that may have gone into remission/recovery via natural means. Take care/be safe.

I have read a lot of her stuff and I am amazed at how fit and healthy she looks. I wish I looked as well but then again I am a lot older.

Must be something in it then!

I am not convinced to be honest and I think she is fairly young and has good genes. However some of her advice is good and a lot of americans follow it and they have made her very rich.
