It's useful if you select the logarithmic graphs to see the rate of change.

What strikes me most on the spread of this virus is how quickly it seems to be spreading in USA. I recommend looking at flightradar24.com/ which shows the whereabouts of planes in almost real time.

Above the USA, it looks like a swarm of locusts.

Surely Trump should be restricting these flights by a great extent.

Don't forget that a substantial amount of air traffic is actually for cargo/freight. If we all want to eat then those planes will have to continue flying.

I check this out every day. The interesting column is deaths per million of population and how much difference there is between countries. Of course it depends on how long each country has had cases but when you delve a bit deeper you can see those countries that locked down early and also those that insist on people wearing face masks.

Other factors which are mentioned in recent research papers mention an ageing population or air pollution which impacts on lungs and therefore how easily or not someone will recover from the virus. There is also mention of the impact of smoking.

With respect to flights, US president seemed to think that the country was quite different from anywhere else and didn't need to take any action.

Of course the other factor in US is about Health care and whether it is available to everyone.

Thank heavens for our NHS

I find the most interesting figures to be how many have recovered.

Right now on Johns Hopkins CV site we can see:

Germany - 46,300

UK - 357

France - 24,413

Australia - 1,472

The UK recovered number has been creeping incredibly slowly.

I just wonder if here people are admitted to ICU too late? Boris looked shocking last Thursday and in my opinion should have gone to hospital then. But what do I know? I'm just a hypothyroid, hypochondriac, but I did once have very severe pneumonia and it felt like an elephant sitting on my chest for 2 weeks. It took me 6 months to regain full fitness and I was very fit before I was struck down.

The number didn't go up when Matt Hancock declared himself well, so I am perplexed by what the numbers are actually counting!

My argument really is that while death rate is obviously so very important, recovery rate should (we hope) indicate an increasing number of people who might be immune and reduce likelihood of transmission.

it felt like an elephant sitting on my chest

That's exactly how I described how I felt when I had pneumonia!

I think we will be in lockdown for at least another month. I dread to think what companies will go into liquidation because of this. They have no choice but to stop trading because of the risk to human life and that must come first.

I wish I would stop eating chocolate bars all the time ... I have now locked them up in cupboard and told my son to keep the key to stop me munching on them all the time!

I think a link to the Public Health England Arcgis site is:

arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboar...

The Welsh government/health people have now made available what appears to be a pretty good presentation of current and historic data.

public.tableau.com/profile/...

I think that for both there are many options to select and browse the data.

I love the NHS but i think its interesting how few deaths have occurred in Germany in comparison. Interesting to know how their healthcare differs. I know they pay double what we pay for healthcare - maybe its time to reshape healthcare in the UK.

they do a lot more testing

But the figures show people admitted to hospital and survival rates. so all have covid19.

Not what you're looking for?
