Is it true that there is a new Levothyroxine that supplies a dosage of 88mcgs?
Has anyone heard of this ? It would possibly be an answer for people taking 100/75 mcgs on alternate days,as there always seems to be concern about pill cutting accuracy and loss of strength in the tablet. Much would depend on what the brand is,if it exists.
I haven't heard of this but I do know a Pharmacist so I will try and message him about it or you could even ring a Pharmacy and ask them because they are here to advise us about drugs. I always ask mine about the drugs I am prescribed because they know more than doctors having studied at university for 4 years.
88 microgram dosages are available in quite a number of countries (e.g. USA and Greece).
There are, broadly, two approaches to the availability of different dosages of levothyroxine around the world. One is to make it possible for the majority of patients to take just one tablet a day. The other is to simplify the range and make up daily quanitities by combining tablet dosages.
A fairly typical range of dosages might include 25, 50, 75, 88, 100, 112, 125, 137, 150, 175, 200 and 300 microgram tablets.
As I see it, each has advantages and disadvantages.

Hi helvella..........We'll soon need an "Ology" to understand what's going on with our Thyroid medication. Yes,my latest 100/75 Actavis Levo is now Accord.I have studied the Patient Leaflet ,but seemingly no difference.( One pill a day would be good though .......one for the future?)
T3 Liothyronine now to come from my Endo at hospital (16 mile round trip) which I shall pick up on Monday when I see him. It was all too easy to pick up my meds at the pharmacy beneath my surgery a mile away. Just thankful that I still have it.
Thanks for all the work you do to help keep us informed.( My GP thought this TUK that I belong to was a little local group.🙆🏼!!
I use a pill cutter on 50 mcgs and add to another 50mcgs .
Now that I am having to collect my T3 from the hospital it will be interesting to see what brand they prescribe.Because I only take 10mcgs my Endo is going to give me 3 months x 20mcgs,q which halved will last until my next appointment in 6 months.
I just found out today that I have hypothyroid. I am prescribed 88 to start. Does anyone have any side effects from this medicine? I never like to start a new one not knowing what to expect on effects. Now I know why I don't have much energy and cannot loose weight.
