Shekina if you need levothyroxine then you need to persevere. Maybe try different brands. I found it hard to take and could only manage if I split my dose taking half at night and half in the morning. The body cannot do without thyroid hormones and you could make yourself very ill. Have you got the results of your thyroid blood tests?

The medication has many fillers to bulk it up and keep it stable. It’s quite common though that one or more of these fillers can upset you so the advice would be to try a different brand. There is a selection of fillers in each brand so it’s possible you may have to try more than one but it’s very important that you take your medication or you could get very poorly as time goes on so best to look into it now before your health declines further.

Headaches and joint pain are both symptoms of an under active thyroid so it may be that in fact you are under medicated with T4. Post your blood results with ranges x

Shekina, 50mcg is a starter dose of Levo. It is not intended to make you feel better, and its very common to feel worse on this initial dose.

Best practice is to have a retest after 6 weeks, a dose adjustment by 25mcg, then again hold for 6 weeks and test again. Continue in this way until symptoms improve, at first this will be increasing to get freeT4 high in range.

Everything with thyroid hormone is very slow, and you need to persevere for two or three adjustments before you can be sure Levo isn't suiting you.

Unfortunately there is very little alternative thyroid treatment on the NHS, and if you can't manage with Levo you will almost certainly have to buy your own.

It made me really poorly and after four weeks of al different brands of levo I stopped, GP won’t give me anything else. I’m house bound due to other health issues for 14 years and my doctors don’t give a puff
