Hello,

I have been searching to find anyone who has had a positive story to tell about Levo. I had been taking Synthroid for the last 15 years. I experienced very dry skin and hard skin on my feet, terrible skin discoloration, inflammation and changes in the texture of my hair, all that I attributed to the hypothyroidism not the medication. Fast forward to 3 months ago. I switched pharmacies and they (on their own), gave me the generic Levothyroxin. At first I did not want it, but after taking it for a couple of weeks I noticed less inflammation, some weight loss (about 8 lbs so far) and I did not change my diet, trust me! I sometimes have ice cream for dinner :-). My skin is soft like it used to be. I'm never going back to Synthroid.

I hope other people have a positive outcome as well. I took Synthroid for years because my doctor told me too. I feel like I lost a bit of my like because it caused me so many problems.

I've been on Levo for many years and never had any problems with it, despite having no thyroid I'm on a relatively low dose but it works well for me.

But I very much care about precise dose and makes.

You are far from the only person who, having switched from Synthroid, feels significantly better. Many would guess it is due to the excipients (ingredients other than the active ingredient - levothyroxine sodium).

Make sure you know exactly what you are now taking. And don't get switched by accident or inadvertently.

Synthroid has the largest and post powerful marketing of all the thyroid hormone products I know. That marketing works even when the product doesn't.

I believe Synthroid contains acacia powder which many are sensitive to, also lactose - which again some are sensitive to.

I do well on thyroxine. I only have trouble with doctors prescribing the right amount.

I was absolutely fine for 30 yrs on Levothyroxine until I hit the time around the menopause. I have friends and know others who have always been fine on Levo, they're fit, healthy, slim, good skin & hair, and all look younger than I do even though some are older ....

I’ve been on thyroxine since I was diagnosed and tried anything else. But I’ve never had any major side affects. Although I’m really suffering with hot sweats. I’m going to see the doctor to find out if it is the medication

I have been to see a specialist because of extreme hot flushes and washed out feeling fit for nothing .I am on 100 levo and told to reduce to 75 / 100 on alternate days. I would be interested what you are told.

I've had flushes since my 40s and got used to them (I'm now 70, and been on Levothyroxine treatment for several months now). The flushes do seem to have become more intense, and somehow different in the way they feel. Could be my imagination of course, but being already used to them it doesn't bother me much. As long as the brain fog stays away, that's the main thing!

But very intense flushes are another matter, they can make you weak and dizzy which isn't good!

I have been taking levothyroxine for over 30 years and, providing I get a high enough dose, I thrive on it.

I’m fairly new to levo - only been taking it for a year and still on my way to finding the right dose. But it seems to be working for me so far. Certainly no side effects that I can see, only a few lingering symptoms which I suspect will be helped by a dose increase which I’m working on currently.

I’ve seen a lot on here about different brands working for different people. I’m currently taking 50 Actavis and 25 Mercury Pharma which don’t have some of the other inactive ingredients that some brands do. For someone who is allergic to tree pollen it’s probably best I avoid acacia which seems to crop up in some brands!

It seems that so much of being hypothyroid is about learning the how’s and whys of your own illness so you can understand what treatments work and what to avoid. If levo is working for you, run with it!

25 Mercury pharma is the levothyroxine that made me the least ill. My skin was bad bad condition and so itchy, i never wore a skirt for 28 years , now on ndt, thyro gold , my skin is fabulous, no itching and I am wearing skirts.

I do think a lot of the fillers had a huge effect on me.

It saved me and three close relatives which is good news in my book. It did not suit me as a long term treatment - I use NDT but my relatives feel fine on it. It is just a shame that if it proves unsuitable no options are offered on the NHS, The real problem is not Levothyroxine but the adherence to it when it has proven to be unsatisfactory in controlling symptoms in some individuals.

I started on synthroid about a year ago, and have felt amazing since I stabilized on my current dose.

I thought for some time that it wasn't working that well for me but patience was needed to get to my correct dosage. One of the worst initial (and thankfully temporary) side effects was hair loss.
