I am managing to be gluten free and my weight is much reduced but am suffering from great stiffness in my joints especially the lower back and legs. Any ideas as to helping would be great. I take fit D3 but no other supplements Ann Simpson

Hi Ann, I experienced stiffness when I was under medicated & this definitely improved as my Levothyroxine increased. Are you taking Thyroid medication? What are your recent blood levels?

My physio recommended glucosamine and to up my omega 3, but to be honest these had little effect. Things only improved for me when my thyroid medication increased. Has your stiffness got worse as your medication has been reduced?

Others more experienced than I will be able to comment on your test results if you post the ranges (as labs vary).

Yes the stiffness started when I had the t4 reduced as the blood tests showed the TSH was too low. Am having more tests done this week so will see how I get on and have a word with my consultant. Thank you for your message Ann

If you are taking any form of T3 then TSH should be suppressed if you are on the correct dose and FT4 will probably go down a little as well but I would expect FT3 to be high. Your doctor obviously doesn’t know you read results differently!

I think I have a very good consultant and he felt that the TSH had dropped too much. Am having more tests done this week and will then see him again so will ask him about it all. When you get to a certain age the risks of a very very low TSH which mine was increase apparently thank you for your message Ann

My stiffness in my joints partic my knees and left leg is due to not being optimal. When I was very undermedicated I was really stiff. I am at the start of a new regime for treatment and things have improved. Have you any recent blood results and ranges you can post? We can then offer advice.

Am being tested next week and will post the results. For TSH and T3 am wondering if there are any supplements that might help

Before starting suements you need to have your levels tested so you know what to take. I know very little apart from advice I have had on here. You would be best to start a new post about supplements and hopefully one of the knowledgeable members will answer.

You should take K2 with your D3 to ensure it goes to your joints.

Thank you for your message and will try the K2 can you buy it easily? Ann

I buy my K2 on Amazon. It is quite pricey but I was pleased to realise when it arrived that there are lots of tablets in the bottle. Good luck.

Hi Ann, I've found being dairy and nightshade free helps with those symptoms for me, might be worth a trial if checking your levels doesn't sort it.

Hi Am-Simpson,

I can definitely relate! I have hip, shoulder neck, muscle and joint pain.

I am gluten free. Also dairy free and even avoided seafood. I am going g back to dairy because I was told I need a lot of calcium. I am so sick of pills. I also heard nightshade veggies are good to avoid as well.

I take Turmeric Curcumin (1250 mg) a day with food. The pills must have black pepper for best absorption. I also take B12 and D3. Just started vitamin C and was recently told about magnesium. Haven’t tried magnesium yet. Someone on this site sent me this great link on magnesium to help!

I also do acupuncture and have physical therapy. Stress is also another thing we all need to try to avoid! I find when I’m stressed I’m even worse!

Hope you feel better soon !

As thyroid people we leech vitamins and minerals easily which is why we need to supplement do frequent testing and getting levels optimum, not just in range, is very important. It’s the same with our thyroid medication-optimal. If we look after our body it will look after us!
