That's a bit high. Had you eaten carbs or drunk tea of coffee just before test? You might want to get an Hba1c test for pre diabetes

No, I was told it didn’t matter about fasting but I didn’t eat anyway as test was first thing in the morning. The doctor said no further action required! I truly think they have written me off! I eat a healthy diet, recently going gluten free and incorporating vitamins now that I am educated a bit better in my hypothyroidism - but the headaches and joint pain continues. Doctors read my notes quickly and try to offer me antidepressants but I am fearful that I am developing another autoimmune disease.

But yours is over range for a non-fasting test (so way over range for a fasting test) - mine were flagged when 6.1 non-fasting, but seems that I am sensitive to black tea (which is all I'd had), as my HBa1c was fine. Tell GP you are worried about it as you hadn't eaten anything

Can I insist on another test? It says on the document ‘ no further action’. The doctor was dismissive because he said it was only slightly over range.

But he thought you'd eaten a meal and so it was a true non-fasting test. As it was actually a fasting test and the result should have been around 4 ... You could try a different GP
