10 years ago I had radioactive Iodine treatment for enlargement of thyroid and nodules. My question is do I still have a thyroid gland or did the treatment kill it
I’m on Levothyroxine 150 mcg
I’ve also got Fibromyalgia

Need to add it was suspected Thyroid Cancer ...,..
The leaflet I was given by my hospital about radioactive iodine treatment says it destroys the cells in the thyroid gland *reducing* the amount of thyroxine made.
There is no single correct dose some patients require a further dose. So this suggest to me that most would be left with part of their gland.
The information also states Radioactive iodine is also used in higher doses in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Was your treatment as an out patient or were you kept in hospital isolation?
I think It would depend on the level of dose you received and your response to treatment.
I was told if I had the treatment I would need to have a repeat radioactive iodine uptake scan to compare pretreatment.
