Hashimotos and sudden onset joint pain/swelling?

Hi all hope you’re managing with all your Hashis symptoms. Never a Dull moment is there.

These last couple of days my hand has suddenly become super painful. Particularly my right index finger. Been reading around and CPP crystal inflammatory arthritis sounds like it could the thing. The two joints just ballooned up overnight, becoming swollen, a.bit pink, hot and painful.

Am thinking it could be triggered by something I ate. Perhaps preservatives in salami etc, gluten - I usually try to avoid or Ice cream? Or I missed a days meds - usually take 25mcg lirothyronine. Feels like I imagine gout would be.

Anyone else have this and linked it to triggers? I wouldn’t want to take painkillers.

Hi Ling - gout or similar symptoms. How did it present, what are you taking or doing to manage the symptoms or switch off your immune response?

These crystal containing joint swellings - gout is one -can be linked to hashis and I’m interested to know all the info to not have crippled fingers or to stop it appearing in major joints like knees and spine etc.

Hi Ziburu, gout runs in one side of my family. Thanks for posting this. It is most interesting.

There's a genetic link. Eating very rich foods is another cause. Stuff like animal organ innards and the like will bring on the gout. What's your diet like?

Mostly it presented with swollen ankles, but can also happen on the finger joints, elbows - painful.

I had a very borderline case in my 20s. Blood levels for uric acid were not positive but the mild ankle swelling was present. Family members were prescribed Allopurinol for the more serious cases, along with managing diet.

For our family, the disease usually burned itself out and would disappear for years before reappearing after some wrong food eaten.
