Always Check your Perscription

So funny story and a lesson learned. Picked up my perscription from the Chemist they usually give me 50mg tablets and I take 2 every night so 100mg Eltroxin. So anyway been taking 2 for the last 5 days and feeling a bit wierd like waking up with the shakes and having stomach issues. Wasn't sure what was going on until I actually looked at the box last night and realised the tablets they gave me where 100mg and not 50 so I was taking double for the last 5 days! :-/ whoops face palm

Yes, I second that! I was once given 75 mcg instead of 175 mcg! The result was catastrophic! I should have checked what she'd given me, but I was stupid enough to believe she knew what she was doing. But, when I went back to complain, she said, 'oh well, it's only a tiny difference'! Just goes to show how much she knows about the medication she dispenses. In terms of symptoms, it's an enormous difference. And she obviously didn't know that it had taken me 24 weeks of my life to get up to that dose, and she had destroyed all that effort in one fell swoop.

Aww reminds me of a time i was given respirinole (an anti psycotic) instead of ropinerole (for restless legs ) at the dosage that was set, it would have killed me, it was only the fact the pill was different i checked 😲

:O That's terrible! Honestly, you just can't trust pharmacists. Once my son-in-law nipped into the pharmacy to get my prescription, whilst I waited in the car. I checked when he came out and there were four mistakes! For one thing, she'd given me levo rather than T3. He went back inside and pointed all this out, and she said: 'oh, I am a naughty girl! I deserve to be spanked'. I thought, good job my daughter isn't there, or she'd get a face smashed in, never mind a spanking! Can you believe that? She didn't even take it seriously.

And yet, i prefer the advice of a pharmacist on a lot of things ! But still double check when i get home haha 😉, dont trust nothing less i see it with my own eyes xx

I've had so much bad advice from different pharmacists ('sucralose is exactly the same as sugar', 'fluoride is good for you', 'vit D is very dangerous', 'levothyroxine is the same as cynomel') that I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them!

Ah it was my mistake to be honest I'm so used to them giving me the 50mg tablets I didnt even think to check if they were 100's until I realised I didnt have enough to last me a month and then the Penny dropped ha

I think you are confusing milligrams and micrograms. Have a look here:

Thyroid hormones are usually in micrograms.

It’s best to formally report the error to protect others from sloppy pharmacy.

My GP practice has handed over all repeat prescription ordering etc to the local chemists. So you phone the chemist for a repeat. Unfortunately there was a fault in one of the repeats - the wrong drug - on my repeat order. The chemist cannot sort out a "new" drug, and the GP will not change the repeat form. So I have to make an appointment with the GP (current waiting time is 7 weeks) to get them to change their mistake.

Yup, that saves time and money....

The drug in question here is an HRT one. I have visions of, in 7 weeks time, going in to the practice, dressed all in purple, my hair with a nest in it, my lipstick missing my mouth completely, carrying an electric fan complete with trailing plug... and singing "Comfortably numb" loudly....:)
