Will a parcel tracking number from abroad be the same for the royal mail when it arrives in the UK?

I think it might depend on what service the sender paid for. I've seen tracking that was only relevant for it's journey in the country of origin. Once it left that country the tracking ceased and there was no way to know what was happening to it.

I agree with StitchFairy. I've had a tracking number that tracked the journey in the other country and here in the UK, I've also had a tracking number that stops when it leaves the other country or the offical term might be "handed over to UK" or something similar, can't remember now. Depends on the sender.

It really does depend where the parcel is coming from, in my experience.

When I buy my glasses online (fabulous service), they come from Hong Kong. I can trrack them until they leave HK, but then go into a balck hole, only to appear on my door mat a few days later.
