I have untreated borderline low thyroid and have been looking at symptoms etc as I have orange patches on my face. I haven't seen any mention of this anywhere, does
anyone else have any experience of this? Any comments or information very welcome.

When I was feeling particularly awful (I think it was a hashimoto's flare up) I had a yellow tinge to the skin on my face as if I was wearing the wrong colour foundation.

Yep, I have Hashimotos and sometimes notice a definite yellow on my eyelids, the half nearest to my nose. I always presumed it must be liver connected and it does worry me. I know we hashi sufferers can get liver problems.
It comes and goes. Mostly it’s ok but if I do get it, I haven’t connected it with anything particularly. The orange patchs are new to me, good luck sorting that. But do let us know how you get on. X
I think it can be a symptom of hypothyroidism.

I think orangey- brown patches can be a sign of Adrenal Fatigue according to the book by Dr James Wilson. If you have that, your thyroid meds may not be working to give you optimum levels.

Hi. Have you had your adrenals checked. Check your cortisol at 9am. Orange patches on your skin can be from too much ACTH trying to get your adrenals to produce cortisol. If you look up Addison’s this is one of the symptoms.
Hope you’re ok try not to be too concerned. Speak to your GP and get a 9am cortisol blood test done.

Hi - can also be beta carotene building up in liver as can't be converted to Vit A - do you take supplements with A in them. But agree re adrenals too.
I have orange palms. They were commented on by one doctor many years before I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid. Still have them and nobody knows the answer.

I used to have very orange palms, but they are lot better than they used to be. The improvement seemed to date from me taking vitamin A supplements for a short time, but I could be wrong about this - I've taken so many supplements over the years.
It would be worth taking a supplement of real vitamin A (e.g. retinyl palmitate or retinol) for a couple of months to see if you benefit.
Taking beta-carotene or any other carotene (which is a precursor to vitamin A that must be converted in the body into real vitamin A) is a waste of money - it will just make you more orange. And hypothyroid people can't do the conversion very well, which is why they become orange from unconverted carotene.
Instead you need real vitamin A itself, already converted. Be aware that if there is any chance you could be pregnant or could become pregnant that excessive vitamin A can cause birth defects.

If you eat meat... A good source of real vitamin A is liver. Eating liver once a week or so may be all you need, rather than supplementing.

I agree with the above, but when I was under diagnosed, I did get jaundice as well. I would go and seek medical advice from your Dr's/Endo and have your bloods rechecked if necessary, to make sure you are on the right dose. Also check your ferritin and folate levels for vitamin D and B12 deficiency, pernicious anaemia and iron deficiency. These conditions, are closely linked with thyroid conditions and show the same /similar symptoms.

If the whites of your eyes appear yellow it could be jaundice, but I agree with comments re adrenals. Liver problems can be autoimmune and occur alongside Hashi's, as can Addisons. Definitely one for the GP, but look up other symptoms of Addisons and liver problems to see if you have anything else going on that could help with diagnosis.

I have vitaligo. It is quite bad on my body and now have it on my face. I was told this is from my under active thyroid.
My skin turned orange when I was dosing after my TT with T4 (Levo) Only for years . Adding low dose NDT for my T3 mix to my lowered T4 helped me with conversions and helped my skin turn back to it's natural pinkish color .
