Is there a loophole for patients to buy own nhs meds and claim back?

I’m sure this is hugely naive but...

If patients have an nhs prescription for Liothyronine and they can source the same brand as their pharmacist 7x cheaper then why can patients not source their own (obviously money permitting, and the patient being willing and able to do so)? Then reclaim back their money.

I fully understand that we shouldn’t need to but the situation is ridiculous!

I think that's a great idea but I suspect pharmaceutical companies would oppose it.

It would be a lot more sensible if NHS just had a better purchasing policy, but, no, if you buy your own meds you bear the cost.

The problem is a lot of meds cost a lot more than a prescription, so the few that are less are an NHS saving.

I looked up my asthma drugs once and was shocked at the cost of some...could never afford them!
