With Hashimotos do you need to avoid artificial sweeteners??
Artificial sweeteners: With Hashimotos do you... - Thyroid UK
Artificial sweeteners
Not just people with Hashimotos - everyone should. Have a quick look around the internet and have a read ...
I have looked on the internet and I know they are not good but I'm putting weight on with sugar which is also not good. Not always that simple.
Sorry to be blunt but I believe everyone should avoid them. Why would you not? Natural brown sugar is best if you need a sugar fix.
Or organic honey. Or dates.
Cant have either as on a low fodmap diet
There was a natural sweetener I used for a while, think it may have been Stevia.
Definitely avoid aspartame....a relative worked for a big chemical company years ago & threw all our diet drinks away...they’ve been aware of serious health related issues for decades and yet still being used!
You have to be careful buying stevia. My partner has bought a few things that he believed were stevia, but contained other ingredients as well that weren't good.
Truvia, NKDLiving stevia tablets, and Whole Earth sweet mini cubes with stevia all contain something called Erythritol as a bulking agent. There are many people who have reactions to this.
Yes, everyone should avoid and beware as so many foods contain it. Another perfect reason to eat and cook from scratch.
Yes I do eat from scratch
Maybe your thyroid levels are not right, if you are putting on weight? Do you have any other symptoms of being under medicated? If you have recent blood tests, check that they are all good. Post here for advice if not sure.
Thyroid levels normal.

Your results are far from normal as discussed in your previous thread - linked above
They are normal now and consultant happy with my values
Normal is an opinion and NOT a result. Your post was only 8 days ago - so I cannot see how your results have now become optimal so quickly. From reading here you will know that Endos are happy when results are in range - but it is where you are in the range that is key.
I got results yesterday and as I say my consultant is happy with the results as they are within the normal range
So are you going to post them ?
No need
My post was about artificial sweeteners not lab results ??
Yes I agree - but you mentioned weight gain - which is so often connected to Low T3 and being under-medicated. I am sure you have read many posts here that drift over into other connected topics.
I have to trust my journey and the NHS. I am glad if have any good news and I cannot go private so I am in their and Gods hands. I have come along way already in recovery so I have to go with the flow.
Artificial sweeteners still cause an insulin response and therefore weight gain, plus they adversely affect the gut microbiome and stimulate hunger, so you gain weight. Probably worse than sugar. But you should avoid both. Stevia is OK as a sweetener, or a small amount of honey in a hot drink. Fruit is sweet on its own, so shouldn't need additional sweetening and, since you should be avoiding processed grains, you won't be needing sugar to do any baking - and porridge is best eaten with salt, not sugar. Can't think of anything else that might need sugar. Haven't had any in the house for over 30 years.
