Ppis and thyroid meds
I dont think many of us take PPIs here. The heartburn symptoms are often due to inadequate hormone replacement and often in hypothyroid people acid symptoms can be caused by low acid which affects a valve.the valve needs plenty of acid to shut properly but ends up left open which leads to acid leaks and heartburn. I nolonger have acid problems now that my thyroid hormones are good.PPIs because they stop the production of acid also stop proper digestion. We need the acid to break down our food properly.I would also suggest that you do not take your thyroid hormones the same time as a PPI for the same reason. Can I suggest that you try taking a fissy vitamin C tablet in a large glass of water with your levo.It will help you absorb the hormones better and may help with the acid. You might also want to try NOW super enzymes to improve your gut health. ( can buy from Amazon) Also you can get a copy of your blood results from your GPs surgery re thyroid. Please post them so that people here can help optimise your treatment.
The burning starts right after i take the tirosint and cytomel, so it’s related to the meds. I only took the tirosint today and got the burning stomach and chest right away unfortunately 😞 i’m waiting for my lab results, i went this morning, so should have them in a week.
Yes I have had that with medication in the past which is why I suggested the vitamin C. I am not quite sure what happens with me it is almost as if the tablet is burning into me as it goes down. I have found drinking lots with the tablet helps wash it lower down into the tummy where it does not cause the problem so much.
Thank u, which thyroid medicine are u taking and what are you lab numbers when optimal, please. I want to compare them with mine. Thank you

Doctors 'treat' symptoms as unconnected to hypothyroid and will prescribe 'other' for a symptom rather than looking at the root cause.
Many on this forum who suffer stomach issues when hypo, find improvement when they take 'enzymes' which dissolve food due to having low stomach acid (a symptom of hypo) i.e. betaine with pepsin tablets.
Do you have Hashimoto's? Diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies. If so are you on strictly gluten free diet
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid. Essential to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
Many of us need to supplement some, or all of these to keep vitamin levels optimal. Otherwise we can't use thyroid hormones
Most gut issues are low stomach acid rather than high acid and suggests you are under treated for hypothyroid

PPI's if you have to take them, lower vitamin levels
Have you changed the brand of thyroid meds? There is one brand which gives me horrible heartburn and I've learned to avoid it.
Which one give u heartburn? I’ve been on tirosint for for years and recently added cytomel, which i assume caused all the problems, as that ine kills me when i take it. Now i can barely tolerate the tirosint, thinking of trying synthroid 😞 but i’ve seen that people have problems with that one too
It may be low acid which ppi will make worse ,but it may be high acid .The fact that many with hypo have low acid does not mean you have. The low acid treatments did not help me and I was a bit worse.
It is a dilemma as it seems Docs in UK do not test acid level.

i’ve been getting terrible hearburn from the thyroid meds lately
Do you think it's the thyroid meds that's causing the problem? You seem to as you said in your recent post:
Lately my tisoint have been giving me terrible hearburn and burning stomach. It’s like a lava every time I take it.
I get dizzy and a weird feeling after taking my tirosint lately
Why not try a different brand as a first step? You could be reacting to the excipients.
Are you sure that the symptoms are from high, not low, acid? PPIs are to be avoided if possible as they increase risk for heart disease, dementia and cancer. Have you tried digestive enzymes with meals instead? Are you taking your thyroid meds with plenty of water? It could be that you are actually sensitive to one of the fillers in the meds (eg acacia) - have you had a change of brand?
Trouble is they are not to be taken long term and are very addictive but doctors tend to keep us on them.
