How do you know if you’re having a Hashi flare or swing?

Flare
Very often people have no idea. They don't feel much different. Or, if they've been under-medicated for some time, they might feel much better. Or, they might get symptoms like racing heart, breathless ness, loose stools, and other hyper symptoms.
For myself, I wasn't diagnosed or medicated, I felt much, much better! Lost weight, my hair grew thicker and I had much more energy. But, we're all different. And, the only way you can really know is to get labs done.
Hi Flo-jo, doubt if this helps and hope I'm not hijacking your thread because of also wanting an answer x
I've had hot flushes for around 25 years, but get what seem like "deeper" ones since being on thyroxine. Hard to describe, they just feel different, not hotter exactly but somehow more intense. They tend to happen mostly when I get up in the morning or when I'm tired at night and trying to concentrate - such as when reading or typing. I don't know if that's to do with a swing, or adrenals trying to keep me going, or what. There are also very occasional palpitations and the feeling of my heart going faster than usual - especially first thing when I get up. But some other symptoms seem still typical of hypo.
In other words I haven't a clue really!
Do you have any idea greygoose ? I have wondered if my adrenals might be working too hard to compensate (never had the levels checked but maybe I should??)
It’s so difficult to know isn’t it! I’m going to get blood work done next week so what that shows.
If your adrenals are struggling to compensate, then that would mean you are under-medicated. Are you under-medicated?
Hot flushes seem to go with being under or over-medicated. So, as I often say, symptoms can be misleading. Personally, I've never had any sort of hot flush. I have no idea what they're like. Well, you've got to get a break sometimes, haven't you?
Greyg - your comments are always so helpful. Thanks much.
"Are you under-medicated?"
I don't know yet. Having got up to 100mcg, I am due for another blood test in the New Year.
It does seem as if It's near the proper dosage, as there has been no increase in symptoms towards the end of the 6 weeks. Energy and concentration are still not 100%, but certainly getting there. The practice pharmacist I saw last time (much more reasonable and helpful than many!) said I might need one more increase.
Then that might get rid of the hot flushes. Fingers crossed!
Unfortunately the detail of experiencing and handling swings is not often discussed on the forum! I don't have Hashi's so don't have any personal experience to share, but some people do seem to have a good understanding and reduce their tablets a little to compensate.
I guess this is another one of those things that is trial and error and you have to figure out through bitter experience.
I think I'm having a Hashi Flare but my diet has been rubbish through December. It just proves to me that if I eat the wrong foods for me, it makes me ill again.
I’ve described what some might call ‘flares’ in a post today about Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Please check it out as you might find it useful. They are very debilitating.
