Will AF go away if thyroid levels get back to normal. I've got Graves disease

I was diagnosed in Oct with Graves but I still have AF. Thyroid levels nearly back to normal. Will AF just stop?

I would expect the AF to peter out but you are likely to need to address all the vitamin and mineral inbalances that the Graves will have created...VitC vit B and magnesium are most likely .....magnesium glycinate or malate are best and natural Vit C not ascorbic acid stuff and nutrional yeast rather than vit b pills

I imagine they will do. I’m in remission with Graves and I’d say it took a few months on carbimazole before my heart rate got back together normal.

I started 20mcg carb at the end of November, doubled up to 40mcg at the end of December and saw my endo at the end of February. I can remember still feeling pretty ill and hyper over the Christmas period. My hospital treats with block and replace - large daily dose of carbimazole along with an ever increasing amount of levothyroxine until your bloods are where they want them to be then everything is stopped and you wait to see what happens - hopefully nothing.

So, to answer your original question, your AF ought to settle once your thyroid levels are in the right place. Some people are given beta blockers to sort out a racing heart - I’m asthmatic so I didn’t have that option - but even without them my palpitions (which were horrendous) disappeared with8n about three months

What the others have said about your vit D and B12, ferritin and folates being well up in their ranges is very good advice - even if you have to test privately - I could never get my doctor’s to do anything other than B12 (my mother had pernicious anaemia) My B12 was low in its range but my endo was happy with it - so I bought some Jarrow’s sublingual B12 and topped up. My vit D was fairly low so I topped that up too.

The other interesting advice I got was from my pharmacist - as soon as I started on carbimazole he came out and told me to start taking vitamin C with it. I got myself a high strength vitamin C - 1000mcg slow release vit C with zinc and took that. I felt very well while I was being treated and I put it down to my vitamin C as much as anything. So it might be worth trying that.
