Brand new here and if I'm honest here out of desperation.
I was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid (GP described my readings as a cricket score!) 19 years ago. After combination therapy (carbimazole and levothyroxine) it appeared to stabilise for two or three years but then I relapsed and decided to have radio active iodine which by and large has worked and I now take 150mcg of levothyroxine daily. My query however is this - is there a correlation between my thyroid condition and my bad temper? Fortunately I am never violent but I shout (a lot). I don't mean to but I seem to get wound up by things that other people let pass them by. It's been so long now that I've been taking medication that I can't remember what I used to feel like, what normal is. I've read a few posts from women on here, and it seems clear that women have the double whammy of other hormonal issues ( I actually don't know how I would cope with that!) but for the men on here have any of you experienced this - to quote the much used line - is it me?

Hello and Welcome . Yes sometimes high thyroid levels FT3 FT4 can cause explosive reactions . How is your sleep ? If your having a hard time falling asleep it could be because of hyperthyroidism and your Cortisol levels are high when they should be lowest at night . You would need to know your FT3 FT4 which needs to be lowered to feel your comfort zone . Checking your Adrenal/Cortisol /DHEA levels would be very helpful too .
Best wishes getting your thyroid meds sorted out .
I had a foul temper for years. I struggled to control it. It improved enormously when I gave up gluten completely. I have eaten gluten very occasionally, usually by accident, in the last four years or so and within 24 hours of doing so I have reverted to having a vile temper which has lasted for a few hours at least and sometimes longer.
Going gluten-free will only work if it is done 100% seriously and as ruthlessly as possible. People can't be almost gluten free - it's meaningless. It would be worth trying it for a couple of months. Be aware that people can feel quite ill for the first week of so after giving up gluten, but it wears off.
P.s. I'm female. Women can suffer with temper problems too.
