Barium swallow
Off to hospital again....: Barium swallow - Thyroid UK
Off to hospital again....
Still waiting for appointment with endocrinologist 🤔.... Barium swallow due to great difficulty now in swallowing & breathing ????. Any light that can be shed on that, will be, as always, greatly appreciated. TIA 🙏🏽
Hope you get some answers Bridie. Have you had an ultrasound scan of your thyroid done? I have a similar problem myself due to my goitre. Do report back. Best wishes.
I’m more than sure that will be my next test lol
I too had this done before being diagnosed with thyroud disease hashi and graves, it was clear because its to do with my thyroid, i have had 2 ultrasounds now as i have nodules and chronic damage, i still get breathless and choking probs whixh i have now been referred to ENT by my endo, he says the thyroid swells up and can lie on the trachea and esphagos hence swallowing probs and a feeling of pressure on the windpipe, you will find lots of people on here with that horrid breathlessness and swallowing probs, mine flares up around my period and lasts for around 4 days, it will come back when im stressed too and also if my levels are not right, if it persists then endo says possible removal of my thyroid but thats a way away yet.
Dysphagia is also connected with thyroid disease too.
Good luck but i think you need a ultrasound too.🍀
Thankyou so much. Exactly how i am feeling, chocking & out of breath. I get the results tomorrow. Happy days ( not ) do you have trouble eating also? Irrelevant it seems whether i can or can’t eat. I cannot keep up with this disease. I am well under weight. When i am not chocking i don’t stop eating. Just goes straight thru me anyhow......
Yes i do have some problems with eating as it does not settle properly or sometimes im careful not to choke, last year i would even have a problem with water going down properly, i could not even gargle water, it has improved with my levels...i do think it has alot to do with that also, you probalby know this but the thyroid is the master gland and controls how every part of our body works!
Im sure your barium will be clear but you definitly need to push for a ultrasound too.
I always said that a year on if it was something very very nasty i would be dead by now. Cheery thought eh.xx
