Good morning ..I have posted previously but need some advice...I have a 22 year old grandson who was diagnosed with graves disease and had rai a year ago..He is a very bright student, now in his third year at uni but to give him stability he lives with my wife and I..He will help with anything but becomes very aggressive at anything that doesn't go his way...Unfortunately he wont let me go to the doctors with him...He seems to be taking numerous tablets ,carbizabole he is ,sometimes balanced sometimes not.Once he gets an idea in his head, thats it..many are very good, but! My question is do the medical profession use any other drugs to calm situations or is it a reliant on balancing this one.Any advice from sufferers would be appreciated as I have until now had little knowledge of this illness

I’m rather concerned that he is taking carbimazole if he’s had RAI unless it didn’t work and he’s gone hyper again. Badly managed graves causes all sorts of symptoms. Anxiety, depression,Graves rage, psychosis as well as the physical symptoms. My advice for what it’s worth is to sit him down and talk to him about your concerns and see if he will let you go to the doctors with him. If he’s badly managed and his levels are off he’ll be feeling terrible. It’s important that he keeps any medication regular and his levels stable. He also needs to have other levels such as D3, B12, etc checked as we are almost always lacking in those. It’s a terrible disease to deal with at any age let alone such a young man. Also drinking alcohol does not help as the body is already struggling to cope.
