Levothyroxine online (UK based)

Can I be PMed a reliable online pharmacy please? Prescribed it privately but the NHS GP won't prescribe such a high dose (200mg).

Levothyroxine is a prescription medicine. It is illegal for UK based pharmacies to sell prescription medicines to people in the UK without a prescription.

Overseas pharmacies would also be appreciated.

What reason does your NHS GP give for not prescribing the dose you feel you need? Is it because he feels that your thyroid test result indicates you would be overmedicated on that dose?

Can't you just take your prescription to your local pharmacy. If it's a private prescription they should have no problem with it however much the dose is.

Also, there are members on 200mcg Levo, even more, who get it prescribed by their GPs. What's your GP's problem?

I'm asking on behalf of my wife, so I'll need to check, but I think it may be the cost - needing to see the specialist for the script + needing to pay for the script privately.

As for the second point, the prescription is prescribed for "sub-clinical bipolar II", rather than strictly hypothyroid, but my wife has a genetic mutation (DIO2) that affects her ability to convert T4 to T3 (although she's not on additional T3 for some reason). I think it's that diagnosis that the NHS GP is not comfortable with relying on.

According to NICE the drug tariff price for 1 box of 28 levothyroxine 100mcg tablets is £1.11 to the NHS bnf.nice.org.uk/medicinal-f...

If you have a private prescription, this company charges £8.50 for 28 x 100mcg tablets, but also shows £8.50 for 1000 x 100mcg tablets (worth checking) simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/...

According to this article from from 2010, Superdrug dispenses private prescriptions with no mark up pharmaceutical-journal.com/...

There would, of course, be the private doctor's fees and the pharmacy may have a cost for dispensing private prescriptions (not sure on that one).

If your wife has tested positive for the DIO2 polymorphism, levothyroxine is not going to be terribly helpful in that regard. But as you now know, it is cheap as chips and with a prescription should be freely available in any pharmacy.

If you have a private prescription then you can use it anywhere

Levothyroxine is very cheap even on private prescription

200mcg is not an unusually high dose

Or do you mean Liothyronine? (T3) - very, very expensive here in UK. Cheap from France or Germany

Thanks so much everyone for your comments, very much appreciated. My wife says part of the issue is her specialist (psychiatrist) will only give her a script for one week at a time, as he says he is still adjusting levels - sounds a bit troubling to me! But hence the cost adding up.

The levo (definitely T4, not T3) does seem to have stabilised her mood pretty well after around found months on it (and nothing else, although she was also trialled on quetiapine for two weeks), despite having the DIO2 polymorphism.

I think we need to get her an endo...
