Am I missing it, or is there no Free T3?
No ..... no free T3 😞
How depressing. It’s not even an option on the list. 👎
I'm guessing it's probably because the house rule is for the lab to test FT3 automatically if TSH & FT3 levels warrant it, but not otherwise - and therefore no need to have it on the list.
That is optimistic. The converse is the widely held belief among misguided medics that it’s not a useful test. I really really hope you are right and I’m being cynical, but I know where I’d put my money.
No Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies ticked
Or EBV ticked
or coeliac test as option either
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
