Hi. I’ve been told I have a lump on my lower right lobe of the thyroid which has been picked up in a RAU scan. I’m now booked for a ultrasound next week and need to decide on what I want to do : RA treatment or surgery but I’m unsure. What are the pros and cons? Possibility of cancer has been mentioned but only in passing so don’t know what this might mean....

Surgery or RAI
You can't decide anything until you have all the information you need to make a decision. If you've had an ultrasound that identified a nodule then you need further investigation to find out what kind of nodule it is. Most thyroid nodules are non-cancerous. You are likely to need either fine needle aspiration FNA or a surgical biopsy to rule out or confirm cancer unless the ultrasound itself conclusively rules out cancer - which it might.
Ask for all the details after and ask questions but don't be rushed into making a quick decision unless results warrant that. Ask for advice either way and then ask people of here for their help as well.
Why? I’ve been offered both and am a bit confused about it all
Completely agree. I had RAI and regretted it. It was much simpler when I used to go hyper and take meds for a year or so. I would then be stable for a while, a couple of years or so, before I went hyper again. It was much easier than trying to balance Levo etc. and feeling cxxx most of the time, hair falling out, being cold, tired, achy etc etc. the list goes on.
